Congratulations SUU Great West champs

Ok, the game isn't over yet, but with 4 minutes to go, SUU leads at UC-Davis 55-24, so barring a miracle it is over. That means SUU is 4-0 in the Great West and is able to claim a "conference championship", even if the conference is too small to get an automatic bid to the tournament and is moribund and in its second to last season as a conference (almost certainly).

Congrats, T-Birds! Hope you make it into the Big Sky.

SUU will be a tough nut to crack indeed. I'm just glad we have a bye week prior to that one. And congrats to SUU, looking forward to seeing in the Big Sky.

Thanks guys appreciate it. I cant begin to tell you how it feels that we finally have won something after untold number of years of disappointment and frustration. We are well on our way to being a great program. Next stop, a .500 or even better a winning season. GO THUNDERBIRDS!!

All of the four websites in question (BSC, SUU, and the UXDs) still show NOTHING.
I'll believe it when I see it.

Better start crying now Super because this is going to happen wether you like it or not. (As it probably will turn out) the whole Great West joining the Big Sky will be a great move and as a whole strengthen the conference (please mention Mines again Super...

). I will be looking forward to playing the Griz, Eagles, Viks, Bobcats and especially Weber and every other team in the conference in future years. However i will say it will be about time we got the Griz to come to Cedar City for a change, looking forward to the date next year especially with Brad Sorenson as a senior QB

.

The "whole" Great West?
Hardly. I don't see Houston Baptist or NJIT joining the Big Sky any time soon.

The Great West is a strange conference, with five teams playing football and five school playing other sports and only two in both sets. He of course meant just the five football playing members. I can understand why an SUU fan would see the conference only in terms of the football playing members.
If the five football playing schools join the Big Sky, that means the non-football side of the Great West drops to five teams (UVU, HB, Texas-PA, Chicago State, and NJIT). I wonder if this side of the conference survives.

Rumors are rumors and sometimes they are true. We'll see on Monday.

SUU and UND are almost a certainty. Only real questions involve USD at this point.

Whatever arguments I have against SUU, at least they're doable within the current BSC footprint. What does UND, especially UND alone, bring to the conference to justify extending the footprint that far?
Nothing, in my book. You'd have to bring USD or convince one of the XDSUs to break their current contract to make UND work.

Trust me, I'm not wild on extending the conference that far east, either. But be that as it may, it's happening. The positives are that the BSC is adding (possibly) two flagship universities. Academically, that's a bonus. They have, for the most part decent facilities and it seems decent fanbases. I believe both schools have tv networks, I know at least UND has a Fox Sports deal. The only real negative to either one is the geography aspect - but I suspect that's going to be addressed by conference divisions.

well, you are at 5-4 right now. Defeating DSC is about as certain as you joining the Big Sky. The only other game is against a very good Eastern Washington. Both games are at home and all you have to do is win one to have a winning season. Now, it is interesting that you can clinch a conference championship and be undefeated in conference and still not be guaranteed a winning season. But, I like your odds.

The T-Birds game against EWU is at the "inferno" in two weeks not Cedar City. Should be a good one and the Eags will be ready and hungry. Go Eagles!!!

Best bet to see the EWU vs SUU game will probably be on Bigskytv since the Eagles are home and probably will be shown. Looking forward to a much more competitive game then last years (which if you take away a few early turnovers would have been much closer) and to be honest i am feeling rather confident that my Thunderbirds could pull the upset

, however it will be a challenge. If our D can shut down TJ like we did the whole Cal Poly offense and South Dakota's shifty QB we have a shot. If TJ runs all over us, dont see us winning.
