NAU Fooled Even The Pittsburgh Steelers

NAU did a "Houdini-like" move last week hiding the fact that QB would not play in the NAU-Montana game on Saturday. Most of the media in both places, Missoula and Flagstaff, were unaware of the plan, both having interviewed the signal caller before the game. In fact, the Montana TV crew on BigSkyTV had Herrick playing most of the first half when, in reality, it was Chase Stangel, Herrick's back-up, quarterbacking the Jacks. Herrick is Number 7; Stangel is #8.
Interestingly, the Pittsburgh Steelers were there to watch Herrick play and they were disppointed that he was unavailable to play. Herrick, in uniform, spent the whole game on the NAU sideline with what appears to be some type of hand injury. Jack fans stay tuned! Most of them believe he would have made a difference in the 3-point game. Montana fans are just glad he decided to sit that one out. :kisswink:

Not surprising. Just look at Carpenter, Biermann, and Mariani. The Steelers recognize that there's quality players coming from the conference. Those 3 are Montana guys yes, but Fletcher and a few others are playing too.

Plenty of good talent in the Big Sky

Yes, I know he is. I'm sure the Big Sky posters on here knew who/where I was talking about.

Pittsburgh is one team that doesn't often draft from the FCS. Outside of Willie Colon (Hofstra) there's one guy on the practice squad from JMU and another on the IR from Montana.

i am truely saddened that the steelers had to waste a day and a few bucks from their empire to go watch a player that didn't play. the move was smart on nau's part and apparently it wasn't a bad one because NAU almost won. but at the end of the day its still 22 losses in 23 yrs to da griz

It's not like they could just go jump on an earlier flight once they found out Herrick couldn't play. So if those guys truly see an afternoon at Wa-Griz as a waste, we are losing our touch.
