Warren joins Payton Watch List; Russell a Buchanan nominee

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The dominance of Grambling State senior running back Frank Warren has earned him a spot on the Walter Payton Award Watch List, while Georgia Southern sophomore Brent Russell's disruptive play as a nose tackle has moved him onto the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List.

Each award, presented by The Sports Network and sponsored by Fathead.com, features a stellar 20-player Watch List that will be pared to winners of the Football Championship Subdivision's top individual honors. The Payton Award is bestowed on the outstanding player in the FCS and the Buchanan Award goes to the outstanding defensive player in the FCS.

The award winners will be announced at the national awards banquet on Thursday, Jan. 6 in Frisco, Texas - the night before the national championship game.

Liberty already has one player on their list and since Summers did not play this past week he did not have a chance to post numbers that would solidify his spot on there. I am sure if he has a couple more monster games he might get on but I don't know if Haley would put him on with Brown on the list already.

Do they never have more than one nominee from a team?

They do but the teams they have multiple players from for one award are Villanova, App State, and Richmond. All three of those teams are playoff teams and top 15 teams who have won a national title in the last three years. If Liberty was a top 10 caliber team and Summers was leading the nation in receiving yards per game then I could see him on the list. A second thing to remember is that when you have more than one player on the list it perhaps can take away votes from your players by splitting the votes among league voters. Lastly, I always ask this but when you want someone else on you have to take someone off. Who would you take off first?

Bummer that throwing for 2075 yards, 18 TDs to 5 INTs, rating of 156.2, through 8 games doesn't even get you on the list. Maybe next year I guess.

Yeah that's a shame. It's like the NCAA and their hatred for underclassmen when voting for the Heisman.

Why is Chase Reynolds still on there? And why in the Sam Hell is Higgins still on there? That is a joke.

What about Henry Harris from Southeast Missouri State. All-pourpose yds. #1 226.25 yds\game...#3 Rushing yds at 1129 yds....#4 Rushing yds per game 141.13. Some really good stats if you ask me.
