Wofford over El CID
Chatty over Elon - I could pick either way. I know it sounds silly but outside of their record Elon is a pretty good team. Since they seem to be good and not win and Chatt has learned how to win I will take Chatt.
GSU over Samford
ASU over Furman. This one will be FUgly

Wofford in a blowout.
Chatty because Elon just can't catch a break this year.
GSU in a close one.
App all over Furman.
Also to OL FU. Thanks for showing Elon some respect. I agree that we're a good team that just can't win. We should have beat Richmond and Wofford yesterday, and we had a shot at App, but we just couldn't pull out the W.

I hope your fears are correct. The guys will have to reach deep to make this one a game. We haven't shown any consistent offensive fire power since Colgate and maybe USC. Howard doesn't count. We have some injury issues between Forcier and the O-line. The good news is Uhaa is suppose to be back which will give us some power running. We will see. The score was not indicative of what Chattanooga did to us. The had 5 turnovers in the first half - one run back for a touchdown and two in the endzone. Not taking away from the D because they made those plays. But if our offense can't control the ball, our defense will wear out just like they did with Chatty.AshevilleApp wrote:OL FU wrote:

The Citadel @ Wofford - 1:30 pm (SportSouth)- SportSouth really should reconsider televising this game. The Citdogs just are not ready for primetime and I would expect the Ankle-Biters to cruise in this one. If Citdogs hold it within 3 TDs it's a moral victory.
Elon @ Chattanooga - 2:00 pm - Elon is likely the best 2 win FCS team in the country and they have played everyone to the wire; unfortunately they can't figure out how to win a meaningful game. UTC appears to be firing on all cylinders except for the turnover bug. Expect this to be a close one with around 100 pass attempts between the 2 teams. Chatty wins. (I'm tired of picking the Fenix and losing).
Samford @ Georgia Southern - 2:00 pm - I would consider this game a close match except something is just missing with the Bullpups. GSU has been a little inconsistant as one would expect with a young team and a new offense, but Sammy has been surprisingly poor. The game is at Stinky Creek so I expect the Eagles to roll in this one. They can't afford a letdown at this point.
Furman @ Appalachian State - App keeps rolling inspite of poor secondary play and at times a lack of disipline. This team is loaded with talent and this is the first of 4 tough games lined up for the Apps who have looked simply bored against poor teams from Citdog and Whee. Furman has been rather unpredictable and with this a rivalry game they will bring their best to The Rock. Unfortunately for them they are also bringing Lambchop their head coach that simply can't win against ASU at The Rock or anywhere else. Watch Lamb meltdown as the Apps beat the Furple again, although Mimms has a big afternoon for Furple.

Coach Lamb didn't throw a 4th quarter interception. Nor did he fumble twice in the shadow of his own goal posts, or play defense in the 4th quarter (when The Vermin Nation went on Suicide Watch).
Just like Coach Moore in the 4th quarter against UTC didn't complete a pass, recover the receiver's subsequent fumble and ramble 33 yds for a winning TD.
That is the difference between Appalachian losing to Chatty, and FU winning last Sat. So that makes Jerry's the greatest and Bobby a suck-bomb?
It's tough to earn a living and base your reputation upon the performance of a bunch of 20 year-olds. You guys have to do what you have to do regarding Coach Lamb, but clearly FU has a young and very talented roster of student-athletes.

I have been a supporter of Bobby For many reasons. Graduation rates, no losing seasons, recruiting STUDENT athletes, maintaining high standards for his players and dishing out many times harsh punishments for violations. However, the one excuse I will never use is 20 year olds. Every coach has that issue.
No doubt even though Chattanooga outplayed us the entire game, we should have won that game. 28-10 going into the 4th quarter and giving up 4 touchdowns in 5 minutes was just heartbreaking. But even more heartbreaking was watching UTC complete the same pass over and over and over. If the blitz isn't getting to the QB and the soft zone isn't covering the receivers, change the fuckin' scheme. Don't give me that we are trying to stop the big play shat. What's the difference in getting scored on in two plays versus getting scored on in 7 except that is takes a couple minutes longer.

Imagine what it's like to be a Phoenix fan. Just when you think the team is going to finally win the big one, we blow it. This year, we've done it @Richmond, @App, and this week at home against Wofford. It gets increasingly frustrating each time.SpeedkingATL wrote:

Re: SoCon Week 9
I'm with you Aho. I would never blame a coach for one loss. Hell I could forgive him for a couple of losses where stupid mistakes by a 19-20 year old cost you the game. That's tough, but it's college football. What I can't cotton to is the steady decline of the program over the tenure of this coach. I have been a defender of BL for years, but I have come to realize that while he is the nicest guy you'll ever meet, we are never going to get back our mojo under him. When a new coach takes over a program that is on the way up, as BL did with BJ, one of three things can happen. One, he can keep the momentum going, building upon prior success. Two, he can maintain the program, keeping the level of play at least on par with the former coach. Or three, he can have a couple of years of success with the former coaches recruits, but eventually will begin the slow nauseating slide into mediocrity. BL has for all appearances fallen into the third category. He only prolonged the agony by getting himself a ringer or two in Felton and Ingle to make himself look good for a couple of years. But notice, that even with two of the greatest players to ever wear a FU uniform, he couldn't grasp the brass ring, but always ended up short.Aho Old Guy wrote:I don't want to distract from my well-earned reputation as a curmudgeon so I'll try to raise your blood pressure a bitdeath dealer wrote: ...

I am glad I don't have to do what BL does for a living. I wouldn't. But he chose his career path, and has to live with the consequences of his failure to at least maintain the level of play he inherited from the prior coach.

It took me about 16 years to fully accept Coach Moore - ( Of course, it had nothing to do with that losing record against FU
) I didn't visually see last week's carnage but would check in to Gamecast from time to time, so I'm not the guy to evaluate where The Vermin stand at the moment.
I'll admit to being jaded and more than a wee bit cynical (with a little bit of hypocrisy thrown in for good measure) with college coaching and the game in general. I'm fully in the "Oklahoma on Sat / Harvard Rest of the Week" camp and tend to look at HCs as 'Marketeers' with a little snake-oil salesman thrown in. But as long as they are committed to the school, academics, integrity, alums, fans, etc., I'm okay with it. I'm good with winning 10 games a year and going deep in the playoffs, too
It's the 'Stepping-Stone' coaches that really torque my cookies, so from that standpoint Appalachian has truly been blessed with Coach Moore (as opposed to the likes of Mack Brown, Sparky, Bobby Cremins, Buzz The Dick, ad naseum). I understand it goes with the territory but that doesn't mean that I like it.
I've operated with the understanding - right or wrong - that Coach Lamb was a 'company guy' therefore much less likely to be tempted by a so-called 'move-up' job and the perils that go along with it. You each have a degree of certainty and security in what is clearly a flat-out incestuous relationship (I had to throw that in - we do have a game this week - LOL)

Incestuous. Naw, a paternal society would be a much better description of Furman football and coaching the last 40 years.

Who knows, I fear Billy makes to much at Clempscum for FU's budget. Some are thinking BJ just might like to coach in at a smaller school again but I really don't think so. Heard rumors of Clay Hendrix if we can up the pot just a little. Not that Clay doesn't make pretty good as the asst head coach at Air Force, but he is a little older than Napier. FU grad '86 and might be itching to try it as a head. Napier's age I would think might make it difficult to give up $250,000 a year and risk his career at FU this young. But who knows stranger things have happened.blueballs wrote:Was Billy Napier's realtor checking it out?death dealer wrote: BL's house has a for sale sign in the front yard according to one of his neighbors I saw at the game on Saturday. Of Course one of the reason I like to think of Clay is

We would go back to having the offensive line point at the hole we are going to run through and daring the defense to stop us.Air Force won its 26th conference rushing title in 2009, while finishing third nationally in rushing with an average of 283.5 yards per game. The Falcons averaged 299.5 yards rushing per game in 2007, which is its best since winning its only national rushing title in 2002 with a 307.8 per-game average. The total is the 12th best ever in school history.
