Umm, 2009 playoffs, hello???uofmman1122 wrote:I still can't fucking believe we won....
Holy shit, Washington Griz hasn't gone nuts like that since the 2007 EWU game. I think I hugged about 15 random people standing by me in the student section.

Today's crowd wasn't anywhere near as crazy as the end of the SDSU game last year.uofmman1122 wrote:Could just be that I watched the ASU game last year in the north end zone, and today's game and the 2007 EWU game in the student section.
The NZone fans didn't go nearly as crazy against ASU as the students did today when Atkins scored the game winner. I guess it's all a matter of your surroundings.
How were the Griz "outplayed" exactly? It wasn't pretty, of course, but how can you say UM got outplayed when looking at these stats:AZGrizFan wrote:THat highlight reel should only be about 1:54 seconds long.
Griz played like **** today....totally outplayed by NAU. How many "lucky" wins we gonna get in the playoffs?![]()

There were some odd negatives, though:
- Montana had 5 sacks to NAU's 2 despite Severin Campbell out.
Montana ran for 133 on a team that was giving up just 70.
Montana averaged 4.8 ypc against a team allowing just 2.4.
Griz averaged 10 net yards-per-punt more than the 'Jacks.
UM converted 44% on third down—a significant improvement from last week.
I'm not gonna say Montana outplayed the 'Jacks, but the 'Jacks certainly didn't outplay the Griz. It was a just a hard-fought stalemate between two top-10 or top-15 caliber teams where the defenses dominated until the last few minutes.
- The Griz were leading the nation in third down defense, but NAU converted a respectable 42%
UM's redzone D had been quite stingy, but the 'Jacks scored TDs all three trips (though they went 0/2 on 2PCs)
One side criticism of NAU: the end of half clock management was terrible. Why are you calling timeouts when there's a full minute on the clock & you have the ball inside the 10? If not for the bogus safety, the Griz would have had time to score some points when they shouldn't have had that opportunity (or at least would have had to burn their own timeouts). Also, at the end of the game, why are you wasting not 1, but 2 timeouts on a mostly meaningless PAT/2PC decision? UM only left NAU 5 seconds so it didn't matter, but it definitely could have.
90% of that yardage came on two plays.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Montana ran for 133 on a team that was giving up just 70.

Try 57%. Anyway, that's two more big plays than NAU's other opponents were getting.AZGrizFan wrote:90% of that yardage came on two plays.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Montana ran for 133 on a team that was giving up just 70.

My favorite is when they use the music that you hear on SpongeBob.EWURanger wrote:Also, I like the fact that UM puts out these highlight videos, good stuff. But I wonder if they might want to think about changing up the music a little bit.....wow.

No...it was an illegal kick...the ball's dead once it is illegally kicked.SDHornet wrote:
And then the NAU kicker kicks it out of the endzone but that isn't a safety?
Is that what was called? The highlight film completely made it seem otherwise.mlbowl wrote:No...it was an illegal kick...the ball's dead once it is illegally kicked.SDHornet wrote:

That's what was called on that one...according to NCAA rules, it was the correct call.SDHornet wrote:Is that what was called? The highlight film completely made it seem otherwise.mlbowl wrote:

What people are failing to tell you...is that the punt was blocked, THEN he kicked it out of the endzone which made it illegal. Had it been a muffed snap and he did that, safety.SDHornet wrote:Is that what was called? The highlight film completely made it seem otherwise.mlbowl wrote:

Is it that, or did UM have a choice of taking the safety or taking the ball at the spot of the illegal kick (like when the kicking team touches a punt first)?mlbowl wrote:No...it was an illegal kick...the ball's dead once it is illegally kicked.SDHornet wrote:

Makes sense. Basically it can't be kicked twice in one play.Willie wrote:What people are failing to tell you...is that the punt was blocked, THEN he kicked it out of the endzone which made it illegal.
