Big Sky Preview - October 23

Sacramento State at Eastern Washington
As long as Taiwan Jones is healthy, EWU is the favorite here. Sac State has surprised a few teams this year and is improved from a year ago. However, the Eagles have found ways to win, are pretty good at home at the Inferno and know losing another Big Sky Conference game would really hurt their title hopes. Expect a close game for at least three quarters and then the Eagles score twice late to win by a couple of touchdowns.

EASTERN WASHINGTON 35 SACRAMENTO STATE 20

Northern Colorado at Montana State
The Bobcats are reeling after their debacle in Flagstaff. They had little offense and were really exposed at the quarterback position - the young redshirt freshman has alot to learn. UNC has been competitive, for the most part, and receiver Jace Davis is up and coming. If UNC's Dominic Gunn can return a few punts or kicks for yards and the defense can take a lesson from NAU's playbook and limit Montana State's big plays, they have a shot. The Bobcats are awfully tough at home and I give them the edge in Bozeman; there's too much at stake.

MONTANA STATE 32 NORTHERN COLORADO 24

Portland State at Weber State
The Vikings are ready for a big upset soon. They have been on the verge for weeks and this opportunity in Ogden apears to be time for them to have a big win. WSU's Cameron Higgins has a propensity to throw picks in big games and this is not one of Weber's better teams. If PSU's pistol offense can score on Weber and Higgins turns it over, the Vikings can escape with the win. This should be a toss-up, but give the advantage to WSU at home.

WEBER STATE 30 PORTLAND STATE 28

GAME OF THE WEEK :notworthy:
Northern Arizona at Montana
Historically, the Griz own the Lumberjacks, at home or in Flagstaff. Last year's overtime game, won by Montana, was one of the Big Sky's all-time best games. NAU returns QB Michael Herrick, who spearheaded 2009's effort with a 400-yard passing game. He was brilliant in last week's win over Montana State, but it is the Jacks' defense that "stirs the NAU drink." They might have the best defense in the country. Barring any injuries, this game should be dynamite. It's very difficult to go into Missoula and defeat the Grizzlies. As history is on their side, I'll stick with their win streak over the Jacks and give them the edge. However,if NAU can limit the ground game (Reynolds, et al), they could pull off the upset. Flip the coin and enjoy the game

I'll concur with all of those, except PSU @ Weber. I think PSU sticks it all over WSU this year. :twocents:

After watching the Vikings impressive performance against Montana (their QB is quite fast) i have to say this will be a tough game for Weber to win, especially if Higgins plays like he did against Idaho State. Unfortunately for the Wildcats their offense seems to hinge on Higgins performance, he needs to play well in order for the Cats to win, otherwise the Vikes will. :twocents:

Some great matchups in the BSC this week. Sac is going to be tough to beat. Eastern leads the series 14-4, but the home team has only won 4 times (however all 4 of those were EWU, as Sac has never beat us in their house).

I almost feel guilty giving you this link, but it's most likely the only place you'll be able to see it.

Used it last week to watch PSU/Montana, didn't know how often it got used. Signed up sometime last year.

I know what you're saying. Some avatars come up just when the wife is looking over my shoulder and I have to convince her that I am just reading what is posted. Speedreading is not my specialty, but I am getting good at it, now that I am married. :D

For me the game of the week is EWU/Sac. Sac is the last real chance for EWU to lose before winning out.

How Weber beats PSU:
0 to 2 to's and weber wins; 3+ psu wins. weber is minus 12 on the season so odds are against weber based on my predictions.

Weber's last loss to PSU was at home in 2006 losing 20-10. WSU is 18-12 all-time vs the Viks.

I am pulling for a 2007 repeat in where WSU wins 73-68!

All I can say after watcing the Hornets play this year, compared to previous years, is...

This ain't your daddy's Sac State team!

Also a great choice, weberwildcat! :thumb:

It is a pleasant suprise to see so many excellent teams and great late-season matchups this year.

Sad that my wildcats aren't in the mix again, though. :ohno:

I feel equally guilty giving you this link, but if Big Suck TV doesn't work (which is a distinct possibility) you can try this one: http://www.kpax.com. It's the Missoula TV affiliate that broadcasts the games. The camera work generally sucks, the picture quality is horrible and the announcers....well, let's just say that Hermes is good for a few laughs (and you'll be laughing AT him, not WITH him). I'm not even sure they stream the home games, but I they did stream the PSU game last week.

Sac State might win if the game were in Sacremento, but it'd be tough to win that one on the road

This is going to be a crazy week in the Big Sky.

Sac 28 EWU 24 Sac is a good team and puts it all together this week.

MSU 28 UNC 21 A close game but the Cats pull it out

PSU 28 Web 14 PSU is a good team and pull it altogether also.

NAU 21 UM 17 I hope I am way off but this game is going to be tough. NAU looked very good and the Griz looked very shakey last week.

1. I hate to say it, but I think the Kitties are going to come out p!$$ed. This will be a blowout and will probably be the nail in the coffin for Downing.

2. NAU is due for their annual swoon. I can't see them beating the Griz.
