QB injuries

What type of quarterback is most likely to get hurt?
(not necessarily a major injury that keeps him out of full games, but hurt enough so that the backup has to come into the game for at least a few plays)

Holy shit he really did it, yet gives no background information on it.

what background information is needed?

I thought the question at hand was which type of QB is more likely to get hurt, which is straightforward enough.

Some background on this.

Jay believes that because UNI has a QB that runs he is bound to get hurt, yet has no actual proof to back that up. This is the first time he has said "Oh, it's only a minor injury. Not that he will be more seriously injured".

He has no actual proof running QB's get hurt more often that pocket QB's, but feels that because it is what he believes he is right. There has actually been a link posted on the discussion that started this debate that showed he was wrong in his original thinking, but he cleverly changed his side of it in this poll.

What I actually said was that "Rennie WILL get hurt again at some point in the season."
Didn't specify anything about it being a major injury, only that Davis (or whomever the backup QB is) would see some playing time.

To quote from your article: "Mobile QBs will get dinged up in a similar fashion to running backs".
I suppose when a coach talks about having two good runningbacks, because the main runningback is bound to get dinged up, you will argue with him about it too.

Yet you aren't calling for Carlos to get less carries, Strathman to get less carries, for Jared or Josh Collins to touch the ball less.

No, but if someone suggested that Carlos should get all the carries in practice, with Strathman not working with the 1st team at all, I would argue with them, too.

UM's Selle got hurt, don't think it was a running play he was hurt on, but he liked to run it. BYU had a running QB, done for the year as well due to injury. USU, Nevada, Mich, etc, etc, all running Qbs that are not out, so who knows. I don't think it matters, roll the dice when you step on the field I guess.

Also what do you mean by injured?

Is he going to have plays/game/series where he is going to feel pain because of a hit? Yep. Every QB will have that. Hell, Davis has actually had to leave games ENTIRELY because of injury and he is the back up and a pocket QB passer.

Is it important to have a back up QB? Yup. Will a running QB get dinged? Yup. Would a passing QB get dinged? Yup?

What would you rather have. A QB picking up 10-20 yards and taking a couple glancing blows, OR a QB standing in the pocket taking a blindside blow from a blitzing LB with a facemask square between the shoulders and being driven to the ground a couple times a game?

I'd take the glancing blow, even in the backfield, every single time.

Richmond has 2 QBs who got hurt this year - 1 on a running play, 1 on a passing play.

It depends on the blocking.

What would I rather have?
a backup quarterback that is prepared to step in. which would mean having the QBs both getting some reps in practice each week (barring injury which might prevent them from practicing, of course).

NDSU QB, Brock Jensen, is a good runner but he was knocked out for the season with a broken collar bone on a sack. Another option is needed: Doesnt matter

So you like the way Rennie and Davis are splitting reps are practice 50/50 then?

Doesn't shock me, as you think that a team can just plug in any QB at any time and they shouldn't miss a beat.

There is a reason most teams starters take 95%+ of the snaps at practice. Why do you think Big Ben wouldn't let Batch take any reps at practice last week with the first team and told the coaching staff he wants every snap he can get with the 1st team?

A young reporter suggested to Coach Moore that perhaps our QB should have slid when going for the 1st down against Elon Sat that enabled us to run the clock down. Coach Moore responded that, as long as he's been coach at App St, he's never seen an App St QB slide & he hopes he never does. He doesn't want them to get injured, but they are playing football and are expected to "hit & be hit". Amen Coach.
