I think you should use the rankings from the CS.com poll.

I'm not at all sold on app states defense. I think elon is due for an offensive outburst. Scott riddle throws 4 td passes and the phoenix rise from the ashes to win 41-28.

Gotta say I don't agree. Elon has a losing record.

Interesting game. Historically Elon has never beaten ASU and also has a history of losing when the stakes are really high. They don't get much higher than this one as a loss would come close to eliminating the Fenix from the SoCon and playoff races. With their backs against the wall, they will come out firing.
ASU's offense should be able to score and score often against an Elon defense that looks very average against both the run and the pass. The App defense has gotten progressively better but haven't faced a QB and passing attack as good as this (no offense to UTC). If Elon can run the ball at all they have a chance as ASU continually gets fooled by play action and misdirection. If Elon has no running threat then the App pass defense will be much better and it will be difficult if not impossible to outscore ASU by simply throwing 50-60 times.
This could be a very high scoring game unless App controls the clock with the run pass combination. One thing Elon will have to deal with is over 30K crazed App fans rocking the Rock and a consistantly good pass rush. If Elon can run the ball to keep the App DBs honest, this game is tight and will be decided in the last 2 minutes. If not App wins by at least 14.

Who is making the final decision about the GOTW? Did I miss the poll? I certainly wouldn't have voted for a matchup that includes a team with 3 losses already.
And since when is App State #1? Did Delaware change its' name? That's confusing as shit.

Bad matchup for Elon vs. the ASU offense... GSU killed Elon with toss sweeps where the GSU slots and OT's were able to get outside and pave the way for a lot of nice gains. App may be even faster on the outside than GSU and certainly poses a greater threat passing against a green Elon secondary.
This game may be a rout for those reasons.

Not a great pick for GOTW...
NAU @ EWU is better than this...

I hope you're right BB -
And GSU/WoCo SHOULD be a better game IMO...

Riddle usually doesn't play well in big games (3 picks on consecutive possessions against App at home last year) We are really struggling against the run, but our secondary is struggling too. Our D shouldn't be too effective against a fast, and good App offense. On offense we're pretty one dimensional, especially with our RBs being banged up like they have been for the whole season. We do spread the ball around quite a bit to all of our different receivers. I really want this to be a win for Elon, it's pretty unlikely that it will even be close.
IMO I would say GSU and Wofford is the real GOTW.

41-20 App....never close after the 1Q. Historically, App has never lost to Elon & Elon usually proves themselves a fraud in big games. See no reason why this year will be any different.

You're joking.....seriously? 2 teams who are almost out of playoff contention? I agree with G8 that Wofford @ GSU is a more interesting game....

How are two teams with a total of three losses between them (two of them to FBS teams, the other loss to a top-5 team) almost out of playoff contention??

They're in the Big Fluffy, a one bid league this year if I ever saw one...

i did cause I figured it would be a good conversation starter for for/against comments!
The problem with having a poll on GOTW is that it isn't decided till mid week, so we have an old GOTW posted half the new week.
If we can create a GOTW poll this week for the following week so the GOTW can be posted on Sunday/Monday, all will be good. Who wants to organize that?

Discuss games Friday. Open poll Saturday. Close poll Sunday. Post on front page Monday.
?
Some games will mean something before Saturday...then some teams will lose and make those games meaningless so people won't vote for it.

Why is this a problem? Do people need more time than say, a day, to antipicate the GOTW? People vote and discuss throughout the week...results posted on thursday or friday. BOOM! Still in time for the actual game.

because I feature the game of the week on the main page thus would like to have it up before game day so an old game is not "featured" the week after that game

Then put up a poll on saturday night (after the last meaningful game has been played....no need to wait for a NEC/Big South matchup to finish out, for example) and close it monday morning. BUT LET EVERYONE KNOW THIS IS THE PROCESS AND PROCEDURE so that we can all vote if we choose to. It doesn't take NEARLY as long to look into a handful of matchups as it does to submit a poll, so users like myself who don't have the time to do the latter can at least participate in the former. Then you have the GOTW on your main page all week.
Either way...simply stating a game is GOTW without a vote is a sham. This site is better than that and much too knowledgeable for that kind of thing.

Elon has looked shaky at best so far this year and isn't this Appalachian's homecoming game?
Mounties by two touchdowns.
