New NEC Rule forbids scheduling DIIs

Question: Since FBS opponents offer bigger guarantees than FCS teams and the opportunities for such games have increased under the 12-game FBS schedule, will CCSU actively seek to schedule FBS teams on an annual basis?
CCSU AD Answer: We certainly want to be strategic and balanced in our non-conference schedule. Given the limited number of non-conference opportunities we currently have as a result of playing 8 NEC games, it is imperative that we balance playing games against highly successful FCS opponents (such as those against UNH and Youngstown this year) and working in some Home and Home series with other FCS opponents. In addition, the Northeast Conference has implemented a rule for the future that will not allow us to play Division II opponents. Coach McInerney and I are certainly open to scheduling another FBS opponent (e.g. your Western Michigan reference) but I do think it will be a challenge to secure that type of game given our current scholarship level and our non-counter status (as you also referenced) in their Bowl eligibility.

Can we call this the "Wagner Rule" since Wagner loves to lose to DII's on opening day?
I think its a good move, but could this lead to more 10 game schedules? RMU couldn't find an 11th game this year and wouldn't take a DII game.

To the Ivy, PL, Big South and MEAC it sure did.
So to answer your question - No.

I think they also became a lot more relevant to MT because they could at least make a little money and MT and possibly MSU and Cal Poly just became a lot prettier to the NEC teams if there is nothing else out that way. I would think the MVFC teams would be moving up the list as well with UNI, NDSU, and maybe SIU.

It's kinda a win for all to keep the D1 games in house. One team gets a win, one team gets a loss that doesn't matter a whole bunch because the D2 win didn't do shit for ya anyway in getting the wins you need to be considered for an at large. For NEC teams getting a win on the road at any of those schools puts them in the conscience of the poll voters as well.
