Made the long trip to Huntsville, TX to watch our Runnin' Bulldogs try to regroup from a disappointing loss to W. Carolina last week. Unfortunately, this was not meant to be. Our group spent the weekend in SHSU Hotel and had a nice 4th floor view of the football stadium. After an evening of McKenzie's BBQ and a long day of travel we turned in early for a good night's rest. With a 6:00 kickoff, we had plenty of time to kill and spent the afternoon watching several FBS games on the tube. We got to the stadium around 5:00 with a light rain in the area that continued until early in the 4th Quarter.

A little over 8,000 were on hand for the Bearkats' 1st home game of the season. GW had a difficult time finding its offense in the 1st Quarter while SH managed to score its first TD on its 3rd possession. SH then scored TDs on it next two possessions and it looked like it was going to be a long day for the Runnin' Bulldogs!

Finally, after previously missing a 45 yd FG attempt, GW managed to score a TD when QB John Rock

managed to connect with WR Jamal Patmon on a 35 yd pass.

SH managed to kick a FG with 20 secs left in the half to go with their three TDs and the score was 24-7 at halftime.

Freshman Preston Permasa [#52] had a nice game with 6 tackles and this sack.

Jamal Patmon had his best game of his career with 6 catches totalling 124 yds.

GW's run game was shut down by SH with Patrick Hall and company only able to put a net 57 yds of rushing on the board. Sam Houston's defense focused on our run game and was able to make us one dimensional. I suspect they wanted us to throw to see if they could replicate our 5 ints against W. Carolina. This week, there was only 1 int and this was actually a ball that was tipped by our WR into the waiting hands of SH's DB in the end zone.

The game ended with a lovely fireworks show that would have been much more enjoyable if the Runnin' Bulldogs had played a little better. Interestingly, the stats [except for the rushing stats] seemed to favor the Bulldogs. SH beat us with big plays on O and forcing us into a passing attack that never really caught fire.

Except for the outcome of the game, it was a nice weekend in Huntsville. Met lots of very nice folks and ate a lot of good food. Looking forward to seeing our boys play Old Dominion next Saturday.

Go Runnin' Bulldogs!

Really lookin' forward to seein' the pics you take next week. I hope you enjoy and Foreman Field and the atmosphere ODU will have to offer, and hope that the weather will be better. ODU's lost their two home games this season, so I think the Monarchs will be fired up for this one. Behind Cal Poly and W&M, you guys are definitely our toughest opponent.

If there were 8,000 there, I'll treat. Officially it says the stadium holds 14,000. Ain't no way it holds that many. Doctored numbers are the norm in most SLC stadiuims (including BCS) and that has to be the case here. SAM doesn't have that support. We have more people attend our games there than they do and when we play there the place is packed but it doesn't reach near 14,000. (we more than fill the visitor's side)

However, I'm glad there was a decent crowd for G-W's game.

CatMom, you going to post a SLC attendance thread for this week like you did one of the previous weeks? SFA had pretty good attendance, as did your Bobcats.

CatMom, The stadium did get more full as the rain came to a conclusion. The student section behind the visitors was very animated. Overall, not a bad college football experience.

OO OO, your avatar won't be on the sidelines next week by any chance will she? ; )

Great pics as always, elcid83. I was pulling for you guys Saturday but watching my Flames online instead of heading over to Bowers in the rain.

I take it you didn't make it to the Church of Barbecue or you would have mentioned it.

Sly, after Friday night at McKenzies we were BBQ'ed out for the weekend. We ended up pregaming at The Draught House [something like that] across from SH to watch the several games that were on. If we had planned better we might have stayed for the Houston Dallas game on Sunday. In any event, Texas is a long way to go to watch your team play. Looking forward to a couple of trips to VA.

ElCid83 - To be precise, our Saturday afternoon hangout was "The Draft Bar" but based on our collective sampling of their offerings, "Draught House" is an accurate description. I can always raise my glass to my fellow Runnin Bulldog friends :D :D :D Next up, Old Dominion, 5 hr road trip for us, nice new sold out stadium and a talented Monarchs team await. Hopefully we can heal up a bit more this week, find a way not to give up the 1 or 2 big plays and get back to our winning ways. The last two weeks have been disappointing after the 2-0 start. It's not time to panic but it is time to show some urgency and better execution in all phases of the game. By the way tailgate rules are 4 hrs before the game, 2 hrs afterwards. I guess we'll be leaving around 8:30 to 9 on Saturday.

Go Runnin Bulldogs!
