More than a few coaches whose teams have struggled inside Bronco Stadium, however, have observed that the blue-on-blue effect does provide a competitive advantage, a notion Riley shares. His team was a victim during the winning streak, falling 42-14 in 2006 after jumping to an early 14-0 lead.
"I think it is an advantage for sure," he said. "Even watching them on film, it's hard to get numbers. It all blends together."
Just sayin'....

The NCAA needs Boise to fade into obscurity so it can actually enforce no color turfs in the country.
It's a silly publicity stunt that does allow, however small, an advantage. I get that home stadiums should hold some advantage over the other team, but the field? That seems a bit of a stretch. It's not like you see NFL teams with it, though I did have a conversation with a guy at work the other day about the worst teams to have a team color field; I think we decided on Jacksonville.

If it is such an advantage, why don't more schools change their uni's to grass green?
Maybe that is the reason Notre Dame has better "luck" when they wear green.

I think it's somewhat ridiculous that OSU spent money to paint their practice field blue. It's their money, but still...

It still isn't as painful on the eyes as the real thing, is a waste of effort really.

During the streak, Portland State led 14-6 halfway through the 4th quarter before Boise woke up (2005 I believe). Still, it was the least amount of points Boise scored during the streak. We didn't even have to paint our practice field blue.

I think it's more of a psychological thing. Grass being green is a normal occurrence. Your brain is not confused by it and is able to shut out the fact that there might be something green on a (naturally) green surface.
When you're bombarded by the red, there's got to be some synapses firing saying "what the fuck is going on here," regardless of if you're conscious of it or not.

The paint was given by an anonymous donor.
What I am really surprised about is that there wasn't any of the global warming/eco terrorist crowd to protest that much usage of paint.

They are too busy putting the halt to logging operations.

That's because most of the eco-terrorists are headquartered in Eugene. There's only one week when Eugene cares about what goes on in Corvallis, much like Missoula and Bozeman.

What i think is funny is that many people dont realize that the home team at times would purposely "rig" the field to play certain opponents. For example our groundskeepers when playing a team with great perimeter speed would mow the grass but leave areas outside the hash marks a little longer to slow them down. Didnt help much though

Or they can mow it.
