WAC Expansion: UTSA/Texas St to give formal presentations

Here's my quick summary on it.
http://news.collegesportsinfo.com/2010/ ... -make.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So WAC commish Benson says that in addition to UTSA and Texas St., there are 8 other schools that expressed interest in formal presentations.

Confirmed:
UTSA
Texas St.
Denver
Seattle

Sources:
Montana
Lamar

That leaves (4) more potential schools interested in the WAC.

Since we can likely rule out existing FBS schools, anyone have anything to share about other potential schools that have reached out to the WAC?

I speculated on a few on CSI but curious to see how this develops.

The administration has been tight lipped. So I give it a 50-50 that one of the schools is Sac State. :| :twocents:

If you really look at it those teams are not to bad a fit for the WAC. For the most part (besides louisiana tech) the schools are in decent geographical areas to be in the WAC (not saying they are the best but they arent to bad either). With these schools being added (assuming the possibility of Lamar and Montana joining as well, though i doubt they will move without Montana State if at all) this is what the WAC would look like:

-Hawaii
-Utah State
-San Jose State
-New Mexico State
-Idaho
-Louisiana Tech
-Montana
-Lamar
-Texas State
-UTSA

Gives you x3 teams in Texas, x1 Team in California, Utah, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Hawaii and Louisiana. Outside of Tech it wouldnt be that bad of a conference, however the Bulldogs need to join the CUSA or Sun Belt and doing that would open up spots for team like Poly and Sac State if they are seriously considering moving up. :twocents:

Scared arent you Falkin? Dont see what your Bias is with SUU considering your stadium looks pretty much the same except that people walk away blind.

Chance of Sac State being invited is <25%.

Well worth bringing this back up to discuss.

The WAC expansion presentations have been going on today in Dallas.

Montana, Texas St., UTSA, Denver and Seattle all have 45 minutes to present their case.

Nothing is expected to be finalized right away. But it's an assumption that all 3 football schools with be invited...since the WAC needs them.

Probably not. They are a private school. And have hockey. But would give even number of schools for other sports

Note that UTSA wouldn't be FBS until 2014.

And the WAC would only be a 9 team conference if all 3 schools joined.

So that means 8 conference games...plus 3 OOC games. Not sure what years would be 12 game years or if the Hawaii effect would come into play for WAC schools, but...

2014: might need to drop 1 or 2 (drop UVA = home game, drop 2014 KSU away game)
2015: LA Tech is in the WAC, so only need to drop 0 to 1 game (drop CSU, play rescheduled KSU game at KSU)
2016-2018: no need to drop any

No, Denver would be for basketball and the 2-3 other sports the WAC sponsors.

I'm thinking all five will get the invite. Basketball would benefit from adding two more teams.

I assume Texas St, UTSA, and Denver will accept ASAP. Not sure about Seattle and Montana but I assuem they will if they are willing to present.

So according to the commish, Montana, UTSA and Texas St are making presentations. No mention of Montana State. So the silver chain supposedly linking the two is broken. Or is it? Montana wants to go off on its own, leaving twin brother behind. Well, I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later. Will MSU take over as top dog in the Big Sky? Somehow I don't think so.
