CAA Predictions Week 4

You know what's odd. Always was a CAA prediction thread on AGS. Then a bunch of those CAA people come over to CS and it seems none of them are interested in doing a CAA prediction thread anymore. Odd.
I didn't see one the last 3 weeks. Its a little early in the week, but that the heck:
Game of the week:
UD @ UR: UD by 1-2 TDs. UD should have won @ UR last season, losing by won after having their last second chip shot FG blocked. Have nearlly 2.5x the starers coming back that UR does. Its hard to gauge these 2 at this point this yr, as UD has looked good against 2 cupcakes and a avg at best MVFC team, and UR has looked ok against a much tougher opening slate.
Liberty @ JMU: JMU by 3-4 Tds. See writeup on Liberty @ JMU thread.
Penn @ Villanova. Nova by 3-4 TDs. I would say Nova by more than that, but for some reason Penn always seems to give Nova a tough game. But don't see it being as close as it usually is.
Umass @ StonyBrook. UMass by 3-4 Tds. UMass has been a big surprise so far this season, and so far looks like a top 4 CAA playoff team. Stonybrook has lost 59-14 @ South Florida, beaten Div II? American Int 31-14 and just lost @ Brown 33-30 in OT.
W&M @ Maine: W&M by a TD or less. Before the season started I thought Maine would win this one, but then they got shutout at home to an Albany team that gave up 59 @ SF Austin, followed by not looking much beter in a 31-23 win @ Monmouth and a 38-14 loss @ Syracuse. On the other hand, W&M hasn't looked like the top 5-10 playoff contender they were billed to be at the beginning of the season. Long trip for W&M, but I think they pull out a close one for the 2nd straight week.
Lehigh @ UNH: UNH by 2-3 TDs. UNH will be looking to right the ship after back to back losses to Pitt and their disaster @ URI last week. Won' be Lehigh by the 5 TDs that Nova did, but a win nonetheless.
Columbia @ Towson: TU by 1-2 TDs. Columbia is 0-1 with a 16-9 loss to Fordham in what I guess was the NYC title game.
URI gets their 2nd straight win vs bye....

UD @ UR - I saw a good bit of the UR game on TV and they didn't look good in victory. Elon was overrated. UD is going the other direction and takes this one by 1-2 scores.
Liberty @ JMU - No let down here. JMU's no longer cycling QBs and despite the loss of Moats, their defense seems to be improved over last year. Won't be nearly as close as last year's game in the rain. JMU by 2-3 scores.
Penn @ Villanova - The only games Villanova's going to lose this year will be in the CAA...if that. Nova by 1 billion or so.
Umass @ StonyBrook - UMass is back? Not sure yet, but StonyBrook certainly isn't going to reveal anything. See nova score prediction
W&M @ Maine - I'm going with Maine here. W&M fans say they brought their "B game" to ODU, but I'm thinking that's their new "A game" in a rebuilding year. Maine by 3..I'm thinking 14-17.
Lehigh @ UNH - Wow, UNH is in trouble already..with the tougher CAA schedule this year, you just CANNOT afford to lose to URI or Towson...that's a cardinal sin for any team hoping to make the playoffs. They get back on track against Lehigh. Win by 2 scores.
Towson @ Columbia - Towson, I guess.

UNH The "Cats are angry...whip up on the Mountain Hawks
Towson @ Columbia -

Oh c'mon. Towson is bad, but there's no way Columbia pulls that one out.

My take:
Lehigh 7 @ New Hampshire 35: Well, UNH has to be focused now after losing a forgettable game to URI last week. Not a lot of room to navigate with a tough CAA schedule looming. Lehigh is bad, real bad, and UNH easily handles this one.
Towson 35 @ Columbia 10: Again, a game that Towson can win. They don't get much of these but when they do, I think they do a decent job of getting the W's. I see them winning this one over a bleh Ivy team.
Delaware 28 @ Richmond 21: Delaware's good this year, and it should start coming out in this game. Devlin's injury keeps things a little closer, but UD's OL and the new AP should be able to let UD run the ball pretty well all day. I think UD's susceptible to the big play and with UR's WR's that could result in some points, but I think the Hens get the first away victory at the new stadium.
William and Mary 14 @ Maine 17: I think this is where the wheels start coming off the season for W&M. After a tough loss their last time in New England and after barely surviving a game effort by an ODU program two years in existence, I think it's just going to be a tough slog for the Tribe going forward. Granted, Maine isn't much to write home about either, but in a battle of two teams with big expectations for the year that probably won't happen, I'm going with the home team.
Liberty 14 @ JMU 24: If we just go by the past 2 weeks, Liberty has no prayer in this game - sure they beat Ball St, but the MAC's terrible, and then Liberty fell to Robert Morris of all teams. JMU meanwhile has been riding the high life, still basking in the Va Tech upset. The game shouldn't be a contest - JMU should put 40 up in the first half. However, I don't think either extreme is real - Liberty isn't that bad and JMU isn't that good. I like Dudzik at QB as he steadies the offense, but I'm not sold on the JMU D yet and this is a trap game for JMU with UD coming up next week and now the reduced expectations of Liberty following their shocking loss last week. I think JMU struggles early from the week off and the overlooking of Liberty, but they pull it together at the end to escape a scare.
UMass 42 @ Stony Brook 24: UMass could run the risk of a big letdown after a good effort in the Big House last week, but they can run the ball with the new RB and they'll run the ball all day against an overmatched SB team. If you can put the game in Havens hands I think you can beat UMass, but that won't happen this week.
Penn 7 @ villanova 28: An OOC game that was tight in prior years because nova wasn't prolific offensively. I don't think this is much of a contest. Penn didn't look good in beating an underwhelming Lafayette team and nova is just rolling right now. nova can score a bit right now and this game is just a mismatch. Penn isn't as bad as Lehigh so this will be closer than that, but the home team will not be pushed at all in this one.

You will be come next week. The strength of the JMU is the defense, not the offense. Defense is easily as good as last yr, despite no surefire 1st team AA like Moats.

Well, that will be proven true or false over the next two weeks - haven't seen enough to feel confident one way or the other yet.

In 3 games the JMU starting defense has yielded 1 TD- to VT. (TD yielded to Morehead was late in 4th qtr after going up 48-0 by end of 3rd qtr the 4th string tailback fumbled deep in JMU territory and the mostly 3rd string defense gave up a TD)

No need to quantify it. 2TDs over three games is still impressive.

2 TDs over four games is even more impressive.
