Help Cap'n Cat Pick A Game To Go To This Weekend!
Posted: Thu Sep 16, 2010 8:03 am
Mama Cat has agreed to open up the checkbook a hair, so Cap'n Cat gets to take in his first game of the year! Will be taking Commander Cat and Lieutenant Cat off her hands for a day, so she better be grateful.
My choices:
SFA @ UNI: Would love to go to this one, but The Cap'n always ends up spending $20,000 on UNI FB weekends. Can't stay out of the bookstore and He drinks too much beer and eats too much pizza at the Other Place on the Hill. On the other hand, always good to see my Panther friends.
Actual interest: 7/10
Football potential: 8/10
Gameday scene: 9/10
USC @ Minnesota: I find myself on the Minnesota collapse bandwagon, esp after South Dakota throttled them at home. Always for the underdog, so this one might be a game to go to to actually root for the homeboys. In what has been a topsy-turvy beginning to the college football season, you never know if Minnesota turns it around for a game and slaps the Trojans silly....and we were there! Very good tailgating scene and me and the Kittens would wear all our fisnest purple UNI stuff to parade around the Metrodome. Someone might recognize that #22 UNI recently beat #8 Minnesota in volleyball.
Interest: 6/10
Football: 3/10
Gameday: 6/10
Morgan State @ North Dakota State: I've given the guys on Bisonville so much crap that The Cap'n feels he should go up there and salve their Panther-inflicted wounds. Kinda far away, though, and their stadium is like Benny Hinn's cathedral, dark and quiet, more suited for church bingo than college football.
Interest: 2/10
Football: 2/10
Gameday: 7/10
Illinois State @ South Dakota State: This one is a huge possibility, ony four hours away and cool fans. We saw them play Central Arkansas there a couple of years ago and had a great time. Cap'n Cat loves the state of South Dakota, too. Might not come home and just get a dishwashing job at a Denny's in Rapid City and live out there permanently.
Interest: 7/10
Football: 7/10
Gameday: 7.5/10
Trine @ Wisc. River Falls: WTF is Trine???? This one is a good one cuz it's only 1.5 hours away and only 15 minutes from Grandma Cat. DIII, nice stadium, liquor stores and bars every fifteen feet. Cheap admission. But, don't know anyone there.
Interest: 1/10
Football: 0/10
Gameday: 2/10
Northwestern Oklahoma State @ South Dakota: Four hours away, only one hour from maternal Grandpa and Grandma Cat, perhaps they could join us. Never been to a game there and would like to see where the Cats are going to play in a few weeks, the Dakota Dome.
Interest: 5/10
Football: 5/10
Gameday: unknown
Wayne State (NE) at Minnesota-Duluth: Nice drive, only three-and-change away from home. Will be cold as a muv, but we'll suit up. Duluth recently voted the second worst winter city in the U.S. behind Syracuse NY, and just ahead of Casper WY and Detroit and Cleveland. http://www.farmersalmanac.com/weather/2 ... er-cities/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Good DII football. UM-Duluth is just a couple years removed from a DII NC.
Interest: 4/10
Football: 7/10
Gameday: 5/10
Bemidji State at Southwest Minnesota State: Had a blast with the Kittens at SWMS a few years ago when they played Wayne State (NE). Hearty tailgating, cute coeds, good football. Odd stadium, though - looks like a horse racing track! Lost my checkbook there and it was returned intact anonymously. Gotta love that. That wouldn't happen at a Delaware game.
Interest: 7/10
Football: 6/10
Gameday: 7/10
Winona State at St. Cloud State: Very picturesque campus on a bluff over the Mississippi, only 1.75 hours away. We've seen Winona play at their cool stadium, but have never been to a St. Cloud game. Someone said the field was a hole. Meh, I don't know.
Interest: 1/10
Football: 3/10
Gameday: unknown
So whaddaya think???
