I have nightmares of being totally dominated by Bye. I think it is a hangover from the Mizzou game. :)

SLU (playing essentially first year program)
Nicholls State (playing first year program)
Northwestern State (playing 0-2 D-II but it's a close call)
Western Illinois (the Southland stinks and is playing a team from a much tougher conference)
Northern Iowa (the Southland stinks and is playing a team from a much tougher conference)
Cal Poly (the Southland stinks and is playing a team that just beat Montana)
UCA (the Southland stinks but the OVC stinks ever worse)

So...what are you trying to say?  Yeah buddy, it's bad when a D2 team can come in and go undefeated against your conference one year, nearly win the conference the next year, then have the best record in your conference the next. You're right, the conference stinks...and you're helping it in so many ways with those comments. :ohno:

I'm just a messenger. Believe me, I wish the reality was different. But the reality is that a conference located smack in the middle of as rich a recruiting area as there is in the country has no current program that has won a national championship and is clearly no better than 5th strongest among the 8 auto bid leagues.

Another thing: We as FCS fans celebrate when a FCS beats a BCS league team. But no Southland team has ever done that during the BCS era. Zero. North Dakota State alone has done it twice and it just got into FCS. A school located in NORTH DAKOTA has done it twice and the whole Southland Conference combined hasn't managed to do it ONCE in now over 12 years even though they benefit from being right on top of Texas and Louisiana.

Look: There's no other way to slice it. Given where the Southland is located it is an under achieving league. At least the OVC can say it's schools are not really located in the kind of recruiting area the Southland is. Alabama's the top State in that conference's footprint and Alabama is the least productive of the Gulf coast states in terms of producing football players.

Look, upsets of BCS teams are rare. They have more schollys, more athletic players, usually bigger home crowds..the list goes on and on. All true. But I think as competition within the conference gets better, so does the conference. Look, the conference has added another positive team to the mix. UCA. UCA nearly pulled the upset with Hawaii last year.(Love to have had Landers and Brown still suited up  ) Still a loss though. This year we have Tulsa..a typical decent team that can flat out score at will (as I saw a couple of years ago in person). OK State, Colorado, and Ole Miss aren't easy wins...unless the team can produce like J'ville state. With the Texas State move and (UTSA, Lamar or whoever) maybe more fresh blood can come in and challenge one of those BCS teams the Southland tends to lose to. But don't look at the next 12 years like the previous 12..they won't be...there's too much going on in our economy that is forcing big talent to come to small schools..especially in the south. I guess I have a bright view of the Southland because this is our first year playoff eligible. Will we make it? No idea. Too many factors and things happen between now and picking time to know. But I can't imagine if SFA and UCA (or anyone) have great records that one wouldn't be an automatic and the other an at large. 2 teams in the playoffs..especially with the expanded playoffs and the championship now in Texas. I just think things are going to be different the next decade. IMO :twocents:
