IllSt. @ SDSU Battle of Early Underachievers

So anyone have any thoughts on this suddenly pivotal game for these two teams? It already was going to be for SDSU I know but Ill St.'s slow start has made this game much more important to them I feel. I think that it being SDSU's first home game and it being their second game of the year to have worked out some kinks (hopefully more than some) will lead to a much better performance from the Jacks. From what I've heard of ISUr they have been very dissappointing for their first couple games. I think this game will show whether or not ISUr, SDSU, or both teams are pretenders this year. I like the fact that ISUr has what appears to be a very weak defense, hopefully that can give the young o-line for SDSU some confidence to build on before heading into the toughest part of the schedule. I'm guessing that SDSU takes this one by +14 after a week of getting the tar worked out of them by some very dissappointed coaches. :twocents:

Jesus, I don't know who I want to win this one.

SDSU may have had its fifteen minutes of fame and ILSU had their fifteen seconds beating UNI last year.

SDSU by 1, 6-5.

Where do I go with this? Well...classically SDSU is a slow starter. Especially during the D1 transition and still end the season with few losses. So anyways.
I gotta give it to my boys at home...everybody know how SDSU loves their home field. Am I nervous.....a little bit.....

Loser of this game goes in the tank for the rest of the year.

Loser of this game is looking over their shoulder, waiting for NDSU to sneak up on them.

Forget NDSU - Indiana State!

I'll take the Jacks. I think they play Delaware closer if it's not their 1st game and I think they'll be a lot better this week.

SDSU with a solid victory over ILSU. Everyone has been drinking the ILSU Kool-Aide all offseason except for the folks in Youngstown, who saw their mediocre 4-5 team (at the time) beat them 30-18 at home.

And we will be saying the same thing about your program for the next couple years

I'll go with Illinois State and yes, while it the loser might not be in an actuall downward spiral, it definately seems that way because of lackluster performances.

Not a clue based on what I have, or have not seen, out of these teams.

Don't know if Delaware was that good or if SDSU just didn't show up.

Illinois State gave up 54 points to a D2 school and very well could be 0-2. Did they even get off the bus in Evanston?

My hope is that SDSU takes this one and MSU can basically crush ISU's hopes and dreams the next week in Normal.

Coach Heacock, or as many called, Hiccup, is now gone. It is all about the Wolf, Coach Wolford.. We'll see how good YSU is in a week at home against SIU.

UD was that good and has a history of stepping up in that kind of game (ranked OOC). SDSU was over-ranked at #9, but they are still a top 25 team. If ISU controls both lines and the run game like UD did then O'Brien needs to step up. If the 2nd half SDSU team I saw shows up this week they will be tough to beat. They needed a warm-up game prior to last week.
ISU over-hyped.

No problems for ISU offense, the problem is defensive and I have to believe by week 3, 1st MVFC game of the year, Coach Spack has addessed the problem and ISU will be ready. Not saying they will win b/c I think the Jacks win @ home, but the Birds D will look alot better than the previous 2 weeks

The loser will have two FCS losses and games remaining with UNI and SIU.

Last weeks lively conversation focused on how ISUMatt knew more about the Northwestern gameplan then an offensive lineman at Northwestern did. Then the guy got all defensive when I mentioned he shouldn't question my football knowledge. Yep it sure blows when your teams message board only wants to talk hoops and only wants football to move up so hoops can become better. Have I mentioned we haven't made the toothy since 1998, longest drought of any current MVC team. Yep good ol redbirdfan.net

I saw today that Il State was something like 47th in the mid majority top 100 the last 6 years, and that they hadn't been to the NCAA's since 1998. I didn't realize it had been that long.

Wow is all I have to say.
