Can a FCS be in the BCS polls?

So as I am driving into work today I hear a lot about the JMU Virginia Tech game. All the reasons why Virginia Tech lost...they "played down"....."looked past". My favorite was a guy on ESPN saying that Boise State actually beat them twice....the logic being that they were soooo demoralized after the loss to Boise that they couldn't get it together for this game...Ha!....How bout this novel idea......JMU is better than Virginia Tech

That got me thinking.....JMU is currently ranked 33 in Sagarin. Can a FCS be in an AP or BCS poll?

By the way JMU.... that was awesome :notworthy:  :notworthy:  :notworthy:

FCS can be ranked in the AP via the "App State" rule of 2007. Hopefully they get a vote or two. Nova got votes last year as did App in 2007.

They were Saturday, when they needed to be, but do you really believe that statement?

Actually I do....based on the best evidence possible...... When they played head to head JMU won. If they played again, the result might be different but its a game and teams are judged by wins an losses....

Right. JMU was better Saturday but they aren't the better team

JMU did get 11 votes in the AP poll...

But since that's no enough to get into the BCS poll...I'd have to say while it's not impossible, it's improbable...

So when Northeastern beat Delaware in 2003, they were better, or just better that day?

Right. JMU was better Saturday but they aren't the better team
I understand your point and agree but based on that kind of logic why play the games (sure... yes they are fun to watch)? Do they play any common opponents this year?

Because you can't play the A beat B, B beat C, etc... game because eventually you'll have C beating A and then what?

In 2008 JMU earned the 24th place in Sagarin's BCS rankings in the last week of the season, so yes, it's possible.

While they (FCS teams) can be ranked in an individual computer, I don't think more than one of the computer rankings includes FCS teams and I don't believe they are eligible for either the Coaches or Harris polls either. So to make a showing in the BCS standings....not possible.
