What happened to SIU?

This was a team poised for coronation to the MVFC title. If anybody watched that game last night there was no indication at all the SIU had anything. Looked like a Jr. YSU more than anything. They took a physical pounding and were completely outplayed from the opening kickoff.
Is SIU as bad as they looked? Is anybody else sorry that game was on the Big 10 network?

SIU shit the bed yesterday. I picked them to win that game, and I thought worst case scenario it would be a very close game. Can't believe it turned out that way.

I would be a little concerned if i were you. Lennon looked out of his element if his football team is any indication. Last year they had a decent season but it was Jerry Kills team. Lennon managed to underachieve with that team.
Lennon has one of the worst playoff records going. You saw how well he prepared last year. Reminds me of last night. The team didnt look ready to play and maybe they werent?
It was also disconcerting watching Illinois dish out the punishment. Did the Salukies suffer any injuries?

I have been looking at the box score and there are some things that really pop out:
1) SIU was 3-16 on third down
2) SIU had 45 yds rushing
3) Illinois had 407 total yds with 239 through the air.
There was nothing for SIU to hang their hat on. Not one phase of their game worked. This team looked good against an inferior team but was unable to show any of that against an admittedly superior opponent.
What I am seeing is a team in decline. The signs are there. I dont think they have made any progress since their playoff game last year and in that one they just didn't measure up. We will see as the season unfolds.

Well, JB, it's like this: We got handled by a team that was bigger, faster, and stronger; a Big-10 team whipped us pretty bad, but not as bad as an MVC team absolutely humiliated you.
A couple of things: SIU is not as good as last year, which we in Egypt already knew, but the pollsters were evidently giving the program respect.
Illinois is not nearly as bad as the word on the street says - good team or not they are
very athletic compared to us, and we're a pretty athletic FCS team. Their o line is enormous, like the Bison but with talent and skill, and I believe their QB will be a good one. We actually came out and did what we intended to as far as slowing the run game and making the Freshman QB beat us with his arm. Which he proceeded to do with considerable poise and athleticism. Due to injuries we're starting a Freshman CB and they found him and picked on him all night.
SIU had a slightly longer time TOP and the defense came up with two picks and a fumble recovery, but the Illini defense completely stifled SIU - four trips to the red zone, 3 pts. Ouch. Dieker came out too high and was missing receivers badly even when he had time. Unfortunately the Illini put up two TDs while the SIU offense was settling down and that changed things.
PS, the Seniors are still Kill's recruits.

So...SIU was manhandled in terms of the stats which means they clearly weren't as good as the other team right?
Hmm...That sounds like the exact opposite of what you are saying about a different game.

Difference? NDSU lost 16-9 and the game went down to the last play. That indicates NDSU may not have been as over-matched as you like to say?
Your game was over half way through the first. There was nothing positive for SIU. They didnt stop Illinois, they were physically over-matched at almost every position, were overwhelmed on both sides of the ball and the game wasnt as close as the score. Just the opposite of the NDSU loss with some similarity.

NDSU was completely overmatched. The one fumble for a touchback should have been a TD, I posted a picture proving that. The run where Carlos was ruled out at the 2 was TD as well, that drive also ended in a fumble.
You were completely out classed that entire game.

Dude! You are from Mars.
If Everett's Many Worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics is correct, there actually is a parallel universe, somewhere in another dimension where things are as you say, and the Bison aren't a laughingstock, JB.
But this universe is different. In this universe your team embarrassed the whole conference in front of the entire nation. You can look at the SIU/UI game and say that SIU doesn't belong in the Big 10, and you can also look at the UNI/NDSU game........
eleven sacks!
Minus 40 yds. rushing!
Jesus, JB, we could have put together a team from
this forum and given UNI a better game.
Two team race for the MVC title, JB, business as usual.

I say the winning TD was called back.
I also say the universe we are in still includes NDSU Football.
I guess what Im hearing is that UNI can win in a thriller that goes down to the last play, sees the winning TD called back, is victim of more than one great defensive stand and showed enough offensive fireworks to satisfy the fans, yet they are no better than SIU, a team that looked hapless and without potential but thought they had a chance? YSU Jr. if you ask me. Show me what you got.
We played UNI down to the last play. NDSU is a very young team. The QB situation isnt settled. The BISON are resilient. UNI had some success with some things but were stuffed when it counted. They deserve the win but they arent any better than NDSU. That was a match up of equals. Thats what made it a good game.
Illinois and Southern Illinois was a yawner, over almost before it started. What can you say? Where is the bright spot? You guys actually thought you would win! You were never in it. What happened?

I'm working on getting screen caps to show the other TD that UNI was screwed out of. Thus making the score 30-3 UNI at one point (had the plays been called correctly).
NDSU was never trying to score the winning TD. Assuming the TD counted that would have still had you down by 1 (9+6=15) and you had already had on PAT blocked.

You are better off with the close and thrilling 16-9 win than trying to blow-fish by bringing in the officials. There were plenty of problems. The winning TD was called back. This game went down to the last play. UNI hung on to win.
Can SIU say that? I dont think so. They had nothing I tell ya, nothing!

Winning is now being down by 1?
Wow, you're a fucking moron. You make lakes look like a fucking genius.

YSU is low on everyone's radar this year, but the fans in Youngstown are very pleased with the new regime in town thus far. We had a crowd of 18,025 yesterday for the home opener against Butler. That is the largest crowd in at least 3 years. We'll see what SIU is made of when they come to Stambaugh in two weeks. SIU has had our number as of late, but we have their offensive coordinator from last year on the staff and the community really seeming to be embracing the Wolford coaching staff.
Would not be surprised to see a huge crowd on the 25th and perhaps a white out or something to get the crowd going.

I'm afraid the Cap'n is right, JB, you're looking at 2-9 unless you can somehow get by WIU, and right now I'd be cautious about taking the Bison over Indiana State as a given.
-40 yards rushing, JB.
11 sacks!

How does anybody suck that bad? I ask you honestly, JB.

Man, let it go. If the Bison receiver hadn't pushed off the UNI defender for OPI it would have been an INT.

Ive never known the Capn to be much more than a smart ass funny fuck.
You saw what you wanted. I saw the pictures. What a joke. The winning TD was called back. Some decent offense setup some big plays that were either stuffed for naught or resulted in three. The game went down to the last play. Boast as you might, and you will, but it just wasnt that impressive for UNI.
As far as SUI goes show me what you did in this game to make you feel good about your team. I saw an overmatched, poorly coached, unprepared football team. What were you watching at fall practice that made you delusional enough to think SIU had a chance in this game?

You do realize you are the only Bizun fan denying that OPI right?
I would also say what you say in SIU I saw in NDSU.
I took UNI to come up empty due to missed FG and fumbles in 5 redzone attempts for you to be in that game.

Just wondering, what the hell has NDSU done since becoming playoff eligible in the FCS???
I will be your lifeline on this one: NOTHING.
Therefore you really have no room to talk. SIU will still probably destroy the Bison this season.

When a WR pushes a DB in the back with both hands, that's called pass interference.

I am so tempted to hit that up. Take the wife out for a pizza, then order a second one and get it to go. Lunch for the next two days for me!
