NDSU BISON* @ UNI

Phones are silent. I haven't had reports yet this morning from the field. Im hoping to get some information later but the intensity and excitement of the Kansas game are gone. In its place is a workman like determination. The quiet knowledge that today is just another day at work. A slip up could mean disaster. Today is the day. There is no other.
This is not a day when a football team, flying high from a big win, takes the field and expects the opponent to lie down for them. This BISON team will take the field knowing they are in for a battle. 60 minutes of intense football with winner take all.
NDSU comes out of the Kansas victory healthy. Everyone is 100%.
The defensive line and linebackers are going to shut down the UNI running game. You may not think highly of Kansas but they had a Big 12 offensive line that was very experienced and in tact from last season. Expect the BISON to be disrupting the UNI backfield all day. There will be numerous QB sacks, hurries and hopefully mistakes from a new, untested UNI QB.
NDSU has a very good offensive line. Look for the NDSU running game to really break out. This is the factor the UNI fans are overlooking. That's good. Maybe they are reflecting the attitude of their coaches and team, just like the determined, workmanlike NDSU fans are reflecting the attitude of their coaches and team.
The running game should open it up for Jose Mohler and our receiving corps. NDSU lost a TD last week because our WRs collided in the end zone on a perfectly thrown ball. I think they will correct that this week and we will some some production from the passing game.
UNI is untested. Full of Question marks. The NDSU BISON will enter the UNI Dome an experienced, determined football team with their eyes on one thing and one thing only, the next play. Do that well, time after time, and eventually the game is yours.
NDSU wins this one. Many think it will be close. Ill say NDSU by 11 with rout potential all BISON.

2 things....We won't have an untested QB. Davis has saw significant PT the last two years and the other is only a 2 time all american.
You think the Panther fans are over looking NDSU? NDSU fans, including yourself, are saying your going to TROUNCE UNI and the game won't be close. I hope that is the attitude of your coaches and players. Please, that is the most retarded statement on message boards "I hope your coaches and team think that way".
BOHICA buddy.

You had a good o line last year, too.

Who is your starting QB and who started last year?
Pat Grace started the last two years, but he was never in great shape and suffered a lot of injuries due to his running a lot and the lack of conditioning on his part.
Zach Davis was the back up. As a freshman he stepped in and went 3-0 as a starter, all of which were on the road I believe. He also stepped in that year at BYU to open the season and went 6-7 throwing when Grace went down thanks to some illegal head hunting by BYU that wasn't called. Rumor has it Davis was going to start last year, but got a DUI the week before we played Iowa, which resulted in a suspension and no starting.
We haven't announced our starter yet, which is odd. The way Farley has played this whole preseason has been odd, very different from past years in terms of position battles. It's between Zach Davis and Tirrell Rennie. Farley has said they are "even". Well to me if someone who entered the program in January comes in and plays even in the system with a guy who has been there for three years the starter is clear. Rennie, I believe, will start. He set every offensive record for yards at his JUCO. Total yards in a season, career, TDs, rushing, passing, etc...
He is like Armanti, but a little shorter (I don't remember how tall Armanti was.)

Here are the UNI roster QBs:
Zach Davis JR
Jared Lanpher FR
Tirrell Renie Jr
Will roth FR
Kevin Vereen FR
Kaleb Walter JR
Davis seems to be the one:
2009: Played in seven games, with his most extensive action coming in the season finale at Illinois State (11/21) ... was 18-of-37 passing on the season for 230 yards, with two scores and two interceptions ... rushed 12 times for 78 yards, including a season-long run of 26 yards against South Dakota (9/12) ... completed both of his pass attempts against South Dakota for a total of 33 yards ... led a fourth-quarter comeback at Illinois State with two touchdown passes in the final 5:12 of the game, including a 36-yard strike to Schuylar Oordt with 44 seconds remaining ... passed for a season-high 189 yards on 15-of-33 passing at Illinois State (11/21).
Im glad he had a good game against Illinois State. You do know ISU was last in the MVFC on pass defense last season dont you?
In addition, when looking at the Valley Passing stats from last season I dont see a UNI QB in the top 10. Mohler was #7 in passing average and #10 passing efficiency.
The above statements are wrong. I was looking at 2010 Valley Stats. Im sorry for the research error.
Advantage QB: NDSU BISON Im still staying with Mohler. Its a statement about our pass defense and his poise and effectiveness at QB.

The final four games is what he started...here is who he played
Missouri State
Indiana State
Western Illinois
Youngstown State
Color me impressed and name him the Walter Payton winner.
Grace completed a higher % of his passes last year, 61%-59%, Grace threw for more yards per game, 207-127, and Grace's passer rating was 156.7 to Mohler's 155.7.
Where did you get your stats from?

I discovered my error. Stupid mistake

. I remember Grace now that you mention him.
I think it was back in 1997 or something. Rocky Hagger coached the BISON. He went on the road to Grand Forks with a good football team. It was a grind out battle with little flash. Rocky kept the play book closed and ran straight at them all day. The Grand Forks team won a close physical battle with a couple of breaks from the officials.
They went on the meet in the D2 play offs in Grand Forks. Rocky opened the play book, opened up the game and won something like 41-7.
Watch that kind of scenario unfold for the BISON. We saw a very limited number of plays from NDSU last week. It was played very close and straight forward. This offense is ready to open up and I think the running game is going to lead the way.

I think you will find team speed is one of the NDSU BISON strengths. It was on display last week.
Team speed will be at issue today in Illinois. I hope your team can stay with them. Its a game of interest in Fargo.

We'll be OK speed-wise, but we'll be a lot smaller than them. They'll control the clock so we'll have to get rich quick, throw first, and put in an FB to pass block.
Last year we handled a couple of teams that had better TOP than us fairly easily.

I think the comment about the SIU game is relevant. By illustrating his teams speed disadvantage today he can contemplate the BISON team speed within some sort of context. His comments illustrate a gap in his knowledge and I want to provide a moment of reflection for him.
Besides we are trying to kill the afternoon waiting for the big game.
Watching GA Tech @ Kansas and GT is driving after a short drive by the Jayhawks.
Minnesota 3-0 over University of South Dakota. They come to Fargo later in the season. Gophers look very sloppy.
The BISON have had breakfast and are milling about the hotel. They will be moving to the Stadium in the next couple of hours. They are at the Holiday Inn. I expect about 2-3 PM Coach Bohl will make the move. My guys at the scene tell me the players are very pragmatic about todays game. They are silently confident and looking forward to the battle. By the mood of the day this is going to be a physical battle. The Coach has the team focused.
I recommend the Famous Daves just down the street from the HI.

I see #15 Georgia Tech has already given up 14 points to Kansas.

BISON start the opening drive from their 17 and pick up 5 on first play from scrimmage. Mohler throws for a nice roll out to velman our TE and the BISON offense has first and 10!

Good drive by the Panthers. Mixed it up well and made some big plays until the NDSU defense finally righted itself and held them out. UNI settles for a FG making it 3-0 Panthers.

NDSU at the UNI 2. Good tackle in the backfield. NDSU second and goal from the 5.

NDSU ties it up 3-3!
This is a great game to listen to and it must be fun to watch. NDSU has to stop Andersons rampage and take control of the O line.

9-3 now. UNI picks off a pass, gets inside the NDSU 10 and is forced to kick another FG.
UNI has a good team. Questions are being answered and the UNI fans are happy with them.
The NDSU running game I was hoping for is not materializing yet. In fact the NDSU line is getting pushed back forcing mistakes. Mohler trips and falls. Bad pass by Mohler and now the BISON will punt. Not good.

UNI driving but finally gets called on a personal foul. Dead ball foul #81. I hate to see the game played that way. The refs should have started putting a stop to this a little earlier.
