The Tribune of San Luis Obispo, Calif., announced that Cal Poly's press conference is set for 3:30 p.m. Mountain time, in the president's suite at Alex G. Spanos Stadium, home to the football Mustangs.
Jon Kasper, assistant commissioner for media relations for the Big Sky, said on Monday, "All I can tell you is the Big Sky will be having a press conference at 1 p.m. tomorrow."
There has been rampant speculation in California that Cal Poly could be part of a conference realignment. That includes a rumor that the Mustangs, as well as UC-Davis, could become either full-fledged or football-only members of the Big Sky.
The latter would be a first for the Big Sky, which took shape in 1963. The league mandates that member schools all take part in the same 14 sports.
"There's a lot of rumors out there, but we're hearing the same thing, and we're not sure what's coming across," Montana athletic director Jim O'Day said. "There's a lot of speculation about the Big Sky, the WAC and where Cal Poly will end up.
"I'm sure we'll hear more tomorrow morning."

It won't matter because they likely won't join until 2012. At that time the Big Sky will be losing 2-3 teams to the WAC. The Big Sky will still be a 9 or 10 team league. We'll never have a 12 team season.93henfan wrote:But, but, but...

Not an insider, just some one who can connect the dots. Do you really think anyone would be stupid enough to agree to a 12 team league when there is only 1 autobid? Why add more competition for the one spot? Only idiots would agree to that kind of arrangement. why would someone be stupid enough to join a conference with 0 autobids? oh wait, uc david did, suu did, cal poly did. now theycan be in a conf that has a bid. now as for the big sky teams, maybe they welcome the challenge and hope to strenghtne the conf, more importantly they are trying to avoid what is hapening to the wac.BearIt wrote:Not an insider, just some one who can connect the dots. Here's a dot for you, BearIt: Cal Poly & Davis are NOT in a conference that has an autobid currently (and probably will NEVER get one). So, for them, it's a great deal. I agree that is the GWC view point, but what about the current members of the Big Sky? Why not? Last year between the BSC and the GWC there were only 3 playoff teams. But I agree; potentially there could be a fourth. I think it would be hard pressed to get 5 bids.rationalgriz wrote:Nothing says it would be only 3.
