JMU to open new stadium 2011 vs CCSU

According to the radio broadcast during tonight's 48-7 victory over Morehead St. After opening 9/3 @ UNC the home opener will be 9/10 vs CCSU. This rumor had been floating around the last month or so.
With all due respect to CCSU, most JMU fans were hoping for a bigger name opponent to open the new stadium, esp if want to have any chance of a 25k sellout (which I now doubt will happen).

Really? I wouldn't think it would matter who you are playing if you are opening up a new stadium. People will go just to see the stadium, experience the atmosphere and say that they were part of opening night.

It will be a sellout. What did you expect? JMU has a tough slate next year. With an FBS game plus Liberty, JMU needed an out of conference that was winnable after UNC. The last thing the admin wants is to open the new stadium against another I-AA power and lose the first game in the new stadium. I think it's a smart move.

Well the rumor was finally confirmed. I know we are not a sexy opponent, but if JMU can't sell out for this game don't blame the opponent.
We are a young team this year and despite our less than impresive opening game vs UNH, we should still have a solid season. Next year we should be a stringer opponent, but with 30+ less scholarships, it should still be a comfortable game for JMU fans.
It's really a good game for both sides, if you think about it.

2002 I hope you're correct. There was a thread on this last month over on the Zone and a lot of guys were saying if its CCSU no way it would be a sellout. I hold a similar pessimistic view. I hope I'm wrong.
I agree that with you in that with OOC @UNC and @Liberty, JMU can't afford to face another powerhouse (and CCSU won't be cupcake.
I was actually hoping
9/3 at UNC
9/10 at Liberty or bye
9/17 at Libert or bye
9/24 home opener UD
UD will definitely bring several k fans, plus they are a bigger name opponent to draw even more fans to go along with the stadium opening. And since JMU is already set to play them at home anyone, it wouldn't add to the already very tough SOS. Course the big negative would be the much higher risk of losing the home opener, made even worse if it was to a CAA rival.
One promising thing about this past weekend is JMU did have 16.6k come for Morehead.

IMO JMU sells out 25K for CCSU next year. The admin goes all out and casual fans will come out for game 1. My non- football in-laws are already talking about game 1 in the double decker.
The students had a nice showing for Morehead. The student section was jam packed and it looked to me like students were being turned away for lack of space. I see student presence growing in general, we have had several freshman classes that came in going to football games and that will drive numbers for years to come.
We sell out at least three times next year, game one, parents weekend and homecoming. The other games may not be packed but the avg attendance way up from the 16K we sell out every game now.
Hopefully we don't get good draw locaL teams like ODU, DE and W&M on parents or homecoming which will push other games to the max...
