"If revenue growth of this level is not possible and a 15 percent operating budget cut is required, then we recommend that the university seriously consider our participating in the MAC," the report said.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that happening.
Sometimes a report like this brings up talk of downsizing athletics, but instead they end up reworking the budget and staying where they are, and/or some big donor(s) are drummed up to provide financial support.
but if, somehow, MU DID change subdivisions, I wonder what conference they'd end up in.

Those are extremely ugly numbers that are discouraging for all rust belt schools.

This would be interesting. This could screw the MAC.
My best guess is that they would become a new travel partner for Youngstown, unless Y already has someone closer.

Article mentions Ohio's school age population dropping by ten percent in the coming years.
With:
OSU
Cincy
Bowling Green
Ohio
Toledo
Akron
Kent
Miami
YSU
Wright State
Cleveland State
Central State
Shawnee State
Maybe time to close one entirely?

One? I would think 2 or 3 would be better.
Plus, that is only D1 schools right? What about all of the JUCO'S, NAIA, D2, D3, schools in the state

YSU's enrollment has gone up from 12,000 at the start of the last decade to over 15,000 as of this semester. YSU leads all Ohio schools with a 17% enrollment growth rate in the last decade.

So they'd join the Horizon League?
what about for football? (since the "travel partner" thing doesn't really apply for football)

It's not just non-AQ's- the whole FBS Realignment situation started when the Big Ten caught a whiff of those numbers. They're going to be recruiting physics and philosophy students from the West and South in twenty years, not just football players, out in big ten country
