#1 YOU CANT BE THE BEST IN FCS.

At the end of the day FCS is still small time, so if you win the NC in FCS, you're still crap to the rest of the country. If you care about your program, then you want to be the best.. and to be the best, you have to beat the best... and thats impossible in FCS.
A program should want to realize their full potential, and is a team feels an NCAA NC trophy is their full potential...its time to hang up the cleats.. or switch division.

Top 20% of fcs team should goto FBS and remailing shoud go down to D.II & DIII levels.

EWU will probably totally kill it in D-II. Good luck.

so 80% of FCS should drop entirely out of division I in all sports?

and if "no one cares about FCS", then even fewer people care about D2/D3. So why should these programs even bother having athletics?

And for that matter, "no one cares" about non-BCS FBS football either.

And why should I care if others don't care about the FCS? As long as the alumni and the students (ya know...the people actually associated with the school) enjoy the product, I don't really care about all this "oh look at me" crap. I don't get why everyone wants their school noticed all the time?

In reality we were probably better off at a smaller division. The old Evergreen conference with WWU, CWU, UPS etc. was comprised of smaller directional and private schools with similar demographics and facilities, many great rivalries, and obviously an easier level of competition.

That being said, wherever you are...that's where your at. So it's fun to be chippy about competing with state universities like Montana and PSU with twice the student body and support.

I personally take solace in the fact that we're the liitle program that could.

The hilarity of this rant is that it came from an Eastern Washington fan. As if being in FCS is 'robbing' them of some sort of publicity. EWU would be a perfect fit for DII.

As a fellow ODU fan, I both agree and disagree. Can you imagine if we jump to a BCS conference someday and make it to a high-paying bowl game??? I know that sounds rediculous but thats not the point, like the OP said, there's a lot more money in the FBS especially in the BCS conferences.

In the end, if we can jump to the FBS and be in a decent conference instead of some small conference like the sunbelt and be successful than I'm all for it, if not, then I'm perfectly fine with staying in the FCS. In other words, you really have to do whats in the best interest in the school and in ODU's case that might include a jump to a different conference in the near future according to a study done last year.

Something tells me this thread is a bit of a jest from the ol' BF.

You can't be the BEST in FCS but you can be the best IN FCS. That's all I care about.

First game for EWU in DII will be against University of New Haven - it will be a home and home.

Agreed - I don't understand how anyone's enjoyment of going to a game is somehow increased simply by knowing that people not at the game, and people you don't know and won't ever know, actually care about the game you're watching. As long as you enjoy it, why does it matter if others enjoy it?

Nope. I'm pretty happy in the SoCon. I like Furman season ticket prices, free parking, plenty of tailgating space, and other benefits that go along with being a smaller program. I have a lot more fun at Paladin Stadium than I've ever had at an FBS stadium.
