Contrary to published reports, sources on GoHens are reporting UD AD Bernard Muir told an audience tonight that an announcement will be coming shortly regarding a 2-game series with Pitt.
Woo-hoo!!

A 2 game series? Excellent! I wonder how well the Pitt fans will travel?

Awesome news if it pans out to be true! It'd be fun to watch the Hens at Heinz Field and party on the three rivers.

That'll be our icebreaker with the Big East.
There's an event they're calling the "UD All Sports Celebration" that Muir and Keeler (among several other head coaches) are supposed to be attending on Wednesday night at a private residence not far from me in Little Creek, DE. I got the invite, as a UDAF donor, but I didn't plan to attend. I may see if I can put in a late RSVP now. This is welcome news.

UNH plays Pitt this season and Maine plays them in 2011.
*Yawn*

Sure, MJ, but it only matters if UD plays Pitt.
Hopefully the announcement of this series isn't in the same realm as the announcement on stadium enhancement.

Nice job, Hens. I'm guessing Pitt wouldn't be coming to Newark as part of the 2-game series. Any chance the 2nd game is played in Philly?

We're bumping Nova from the Philadelphia Union's porcelain toilet to get Pitt in Philly.

Maybe Flacco could be UD's honorary captain for one of the games!

Wouldn't the Panther/Steeler fans just love that?

Scratch one more off the list of teams I hope the Hens play. Army and Rutgers still to go in I-A.

It would appear that this fills the only remaining open date (9/1/12) on Pitt's 2012 schedule.
If UD is really getting a series with Pitt, it won't be until 2014 at the earliest.

As a Pitt fan I'm glad to see they are scheduling CAA teams with (slim) chances of beating them instead of OVC or MEAC type gimmes

Yeah, I saw where KT finally posted that on Delawareonline. Good stuff to see it confirmed.

Even better to finally kick West Chester to the curb.

Not
really a Pitt fan, but I do follow them (from Pittsburgh and my sister went there...but I grew up a Penn State fan) and yeah...if Pitt is going to go so heavy with the FCS opponents I'm glad its starting to be better quality than they've been scheduling for a while.
I'm just waiting for the day they schedule a football version of the city game...Duquesne @ Pitt. That would be entertaining...

Since 02' Pitt has played I-AA:
-02': none
-03': none
-04': Furman team that finished 10-3/7-1 (Pitt won 41-38 OT)- FU was a #2 seed, qtr final team that yr.
-05': YSU team that was 8-3/6-2 MVFC (got snubbed for playoffs)
-06': Citadel team that was 5-6/4-3 So-Con. Played Tex A&M and Pitt, so winning record vs I-AA.
-07': Grambling team that went 8-4 (2 I-A losses/8-2 vs I-AA/8-1 SWAC)
-08': none
09': YSU team that was 6-5/4-4
10': UNH (who's been to the playoffs 6 straight years out of CAA North)
So where are you getting that Pitt hasn't been scheduling quality I-AA opponents? Including UNH, of the 6 they'll have played in the last 8 yrs, not a crappy one yet.

For that crosstown game to take place again would mean that Duquesne had moved up to a fully funded 63 scholarship program. That would be great on many levels.
Duquesne was the victor in their last meeting with Pitt, 21-13. Duquesne's record vs. Pitt is 3-5 overall.

I was being sarcastic. Scheduling FCS that can beat you is lose-lose

Been to a primetime VaTech-Pitt game at Heinz back in the Larry Fitzgerald days, looking forward to a return trip to see the Hens.
