Keeper's College Football Ratings is out with his pre-season poll...
It's the first poll to give UMass some love...and I'm sure all the "experts" on this board will tear it apart...
His top ten are:
FCS predicted rank
1 William & Mary 10-1
2 Villanova 9-2
3 Appalachian State 10-1
4 Elon 10-1
5 Delaware 8-3
6 South Dakota State 9-2
7 Montana 11-0
8 James Madison 7-4
9 Massachusetts 7-4
10 Maine 6-5
And his conference rankings look like this:
COLONIAL
SOUTHERN
MISSOURI VALLEY
BIG SKY
GREAT WEST
BIG SOUTH
PATRIOT
IVY LEAGUE
OHIO VALLEY
SOUTHLAND
NORTHEAST
MID-EASTERN
SWAC West
PIONEER
FCS Independents
SWAC East

Col, you may want to think about deleting this thread and forgetting you ever saw that. Keeper is one of the worst ratings systems ever developed.
Last year Keeper had JMU at 9 and Delaware at 10 to FINISH the season.
9. JMU
10. Delaware
16. Furman
21. Chattanooga

I'm talking about how he performed POST-season. He might be the smartest computer guy in the world, but his computer model sucks big, hairy balls (like most of them do).

Isn't he missing a couple CAA teams in his top 10?

I wondered how long it would take for someone to pick up that...
I think the CAA is good...but that top ten is just plain wrong with the CAA slant...

Six seems a bit much but maybe they are that good? Last year they had 4 in the playoffs I think, with 2 going head to head in the final round and the winner, Villenova, going on to win the title. If he has 4 of 6 in the playoffs this year I think you have to give him some respect.
As far as the MVFC goes SDSU was out in the first round and SIU was handled pretty easily by William and Mary in round 2.
If what he is saying is true the CAA is obviously the best conference again.

Only 6 CAA teams? Seriously I don't know if Maine and UMass will have winning records. I guess I should be happy about UD but if this rating had us finishing in the top 10 last year it's worthless. Speaking of worthless, is this garbage in that 3 letter acronym that is a FCS/BCS wannabe??

Maybe, if you take everyone else out, it gives you a good look at the CAA? The unranked teams are of course in the also-ran category.

Well let's examine this in the context of recent history. 2003 the blue hens had a senior transfer qb(andy hall) and a bunch of returning starters and we rolled to a national championship. In 2007 we had a senior transfer qb(joe flacco) ane returning starters and went to the title game. This year we once again have a senior transfer qb in pat devlin and 17 returning starters. Title bound? I'm just saying. Go big blue!!

Would be nice. My brother (75Hen) just moved to Texas, so I've got a place to stay.

As a Southland fan the thing that jumped out to make me skeptical about the referenced rankings is having the Southland rated 10th among leagues including being ranked behind the Big South and OVC. I think that the Southland generally ranks maybe 5th through 7th. If I had to guess I'd say they're likely to be maybe 5th this year. Then I looked at individual rankings such as Jacksonville State, which lost its starting quarterback, being ranked way above Stephen F. Austin; which returns a very solid quarterback along with a lot of other players. Could be. But I doubt it.

I assume the W/L records are this year's predicted finishes?

Not a big fan of pre-season polls. UMass however, is going to surprise some people this year. No one is expecting anything from us this year anyway.
They will need a QB to manage the offense
effieciently. UMass will have an all around better & bigger O-line than last year, and 2 explosive backs, a versatile FB/TE combo player, another huge TE for blocking that caught a couple of TD's last year. I think the running game will open up the passing lanes, which should help our QB. I don't think it is a National Championship calibur team, but we could possibly be sniffing the playoffs. We will see in a couple of weeks...
