How about this possibility: Pflu is just a better recruiter.
MANY of these transfers were guys Pflu recruited while at Oregon, thus there's some familiarity with them....It's become plainly obvious over the past several years that beating the crap out of the BSC teams isn't enough. There's been a missing element (namely speed and DL size), and he's addressed it with the additions he's made.
The truly amazing thing is the speed at which Pflu and his team have worked, given that he took the job about a month before signing day.

The notable difference to me, Col, is that BEFORE Pflu Season, the majority of the transfers were JC or D-II (plus 1 NAIA and 1 I-AA)....Aside from McKnight in '08 and Roper in '09.
NOW, Pflu's transfers include 5 Pac-10 players and 1 WAC player in the group of 10--on paper, a much higher talent level...faster, bigger, stronger, more athletic.
Oh, and we got a guy named Jimmy Wilson back.
This ain't your father's Griz team....

Of course that's the reason. I mean you wouldn't want to get the best possible players you could for your team anyway right?

Dead on. Some of the "move up" people and their leaps of reason are so fucking dumb.

There are lots of holes to fill after spring practice. Here's a quote from a recent article by Mick Holien:
"After spring practice there were a dozen or so scholarship players who either were encouraged to take their wares elsewhere or who took the cue themselves and left the program."
Pflu had to sign transfers to fill the gaps that have happened after signing day. I don't expect this trend to continue after this season. Pflu has said many times that he is dedicated to recruiting all year long. He already has a long list of recruits for next year.
Heres the 4 page thread on e-griz for 2011 recruits:

Pflu has different needs than Hauck and not every Hauck recruit fits what Pflu needs. He was on the staff last year; he saw the weaknesses and has done something about it. This will be a very good team by the second half of the season.

I know some people criticize the star rankings but as I look over our past recruiting classes and transfers I notice that about 80-85% of two star and above players ended up as starters for the Griz. That makes the star ranking legit enough for me to say this looks like a pretty darn good class.

Blocked five kicks/punts that season.

Wonder if HR wears #13

According to our roster, Josh Pelczar (a freshman CB) wears #13....HR hasn't been assigned a number (at least not officially)...
