FCS Respect

After years of reading threads and reading 2 line articles on FCS football, I have come to only one conclusion.

If we want the information (we deserve), the coverage (we deserve), and respect (we deserve), someone, with some money (many, many, FCS wealthy alumni out there) needs to start its own TV network that will report on FCS sports, as a whole, ONLY! And do it with a positive light. It sometimes seems that D2 gets more respect than FCS. I guess because they do not play FBS schools. In FBS eyes were are nothing but unwanted :censored: step children. (tried to say it nicely, hope it worked)

There should be some kind of marketing campaign going on about the FCS National Championship. Billboards in every FCS town or at least University. A national commercial that doesnt look like crap. MAKE FCS AS BIG AS IT IS! Since FBS people dont know crap about FCS or as they say ( Some crappy directional school :hater: :finger: ) Why dont we do the same thing but use the Playoff angle and talk down to FBS for how you have to BUY a National Championship, not WIN ONE!

Just venting. What does everyone else say?

I Agree 100%
Btw for starters, youtube & ustream can be good for broadcasting and ESPN style highlights from around the FCS nation.
Creating & maintaing websites is also a good idea.

There was going to be the America Channel several years ago that was going to broadcast a lot of FCS games, but they ran into big problems with Comcast, finally got through that hurdle, but I haven't heard anything of them for a few years now.

I agree though that it feels like D2 gets more airtime than FCS sometimes. To the majority of the college football world, there is the FBS (I-A), and there is DII. We are lumped in with DII.

I argue with people all the time that FCS is NOT D2. They just think FCS is a joke. Anyways I like the idea. My first thought was not a lot of people would watch it while other BCS games are on. But then I thought I would watch it and I know a good bunch of people that would and there's probably a ton of people all over the nation that would 8-) Sounds great to me!

I'm all for it. FCS players are just as big, just as fast and hit just as hard as kids at the big schools. I think each conference should pony up a certian amount for a national ad campaign and more tv air time!

With what money? It's not like the FCS conferences/teams have much extra money to throw around to different sports within their conference...let alone a national compaign

I disagree. FCS players are a little bit smaller, a little bit slower than FBS, correction BCS players. It's those reason those players are in the BCS programs.
Now as for the hitting, it depends on the player. But I'll take the underdog nine times out of ten. :thumb:

I think the combination of conferences giving up a certain amount and donators (big and small) could get the job done for getting the funds. Just a thought. I do realize some conferences will be able to dish out more than others and it's not fair that one conference should put forth more money than another IMO.

I disagree, people who aren't smart enough to realize that good football is played on the FCS level will never change their minds. No matter how many games are broadcasted. And talking down the FBS/BCS does nothing for FCS. And I've read a lot of great long articles from across the country on FCS football. Could there be more games on TV? Of course, but I love following FCS football and I could care less if others don't. Besides it makes me look like a genius when I told everybody in the sportsbar that Jacksonville St would be a handful for FSU and I was right.

When I said lets talk down the BCS or FBS it was just a suggestion as to what could be done.

I just have a hard time believing that all of the successful people that have come from FCS schools would not want to see this. Bear with me hear. I really suck at math, so this could work or blow up in my face. I mean if all of the FCS schools averaged (key word All) 3,000 fans a game and only half would actually watch and support a show about FCS football only, thats (1,500 people) take that and times that by All FCS Universities (I think 124) that equals (186,000) divide that by 2 because some wont give. which is (93,000) If 93,000 fans gave 5 dollars a year for something like this forever. That would be ($465,000) a year.

Now I dont know about you, but I think we could at the very least be able to pay for a webcast that runs an hour long news update three times a day during football season.

I know dick about starting a company to pull something like this off, but I think there are more than 93,000 FCS Football Fans in this country that love FCS football, would love to Watch ANYTHING about FCS football, Would give MONEY to FCS Football, Hell if you want to save the majority of the money to advertise, to get the word out about the show, it still wouldnt hurt an internet webcast's production value all that much. Im sure every school newspaper has a sports writer who would love to have his work broadcasted every week on a webcast. Now maybe everyone can get excited about all the history and the present state of What we as FCS followers love about our football programs and what sets us apart from Bought Championships instead of Earned ones!

*EDIT*
I left one more thing out, I dont know this to be a fact, but Im sure I could say majority and I would be correct.
Does the majority of FCS schools have there own local or University TV channel, maybe not a show, but at least a channel that the University puts all of its advertisements on or there news. Why could the show not be shown on this station? Just wondering?

That isn't enough money to even by a 30 second add during the superbowl...

I don't know what it costs to run a webshow, but a webshow that looks like a high school media production...heck even a college production...won't garner any respect. In fact it would only further the stereotype of a lot of fans about being "small time".

I believe even if all 93K watched at the same time that Nielson rating is still below 1

I was trying to make a point. With the smallest amount of numbers 460,000 is not bad, then you would add in sponsors, like the NCAA they would give, Under Armour, Adidas, Nike, Russel, each and every conference. And this is just what the teams are using as in uniforms. Each one would give money. Each university can pony up some, plus any alumni that would love to do it, and if a network wants to pick it up they cover most of the cost the FCS and NCAA would help with most of the sponsership money plus selling commercial spots to pay for it. Thats what everyone does, you get sponsers to pay for it, because thats how you get stuff done, plus tv commercial time is NOT as expensive as you think. You should never compare anything to the SuperBowl. Thats a once a year thing. Web shows that are GOOD dont cost much if anything, if you can find people with passion and skill that just want to do it, and have time. It will have to be of good quality to get the sponsers.

Like I said before I know nothing about starting a tv program. Or how big of a budget is needed, but people have degrees that know all of this stuff. Out of 124 Universities, I find It hard to believe that there is not ONE person who has a degree, has money and has ambition to make something that keeps the world more informed than where we are now, scraping for table scraps.

Maybe a good place to start would be to have an online FCS podcast.

I like listening to podcasts at work and was trying to find a FCS podcast, but none existed (although there was one that was a Grizzlie podcast from two years ago that I found).

Podcasting is a much cheaper alternative to a television program, but I understand a lot about the game is visual. Just a thought.

I agree that there has to be someone out there with the brains and money to pull this off. If everyone just says no, won't work, why try, etc. then your right, it will never happen. BUT, I'd be willing to bet that 10 years ago those same comments were being made about a message board for FCS....and look what we have now. ;)

I think we could all start by changing the names of our univerities that have directions in them. UCA is the university of central arkansas..maybe it could be called Conway University..I don't know. :coffee: But to end the directional jokes..lose the directions.
