AE Struggling at Training Camp
We all figured he would struggle at first. It will take him time to learn the position and get all the terminology down.

Re: AE Struggling at Training Camp
Day four of practice I'll give the kid a few more weeks before I'd classify it as "struggling".
If you're around the Charlotte area that term would be better served for Jarrett in his 4th year with the Panthers and still can't learn the playbook.

I am rooting for him
In fact I am been looking forward to rooting for him for the first time

Re: AE Struggling at Training Camp
He's got the hands, he has the speed (which can't be taught), and he'll get the conditioning and routes. I saw him at camp Saturday - he'll make a contribution, and hopefully some playing time in the preseason.
I saw a handful of other college t-shirts/hats represented, but there was ASU gear all over the practice area - he's got a lot of fan support.

Re: AE Struggling at Training Camp
Jarrett is not struggling he is a complete bust. I was just meaning that he is doing as most scouts figured and would take some time to adjust. It is still very early and hey let's face it. About 97-99 percent of all rookies are struggling so far. It is a big jump!!Saint3333 wrote:Day four of practice I'll give the kid a few more weeks before I'd classify it as "struggling".

Re: AE Struggling at Training Camp
Marc Mariani is doing really well and is being compared to Wes Welker.

Fox Sports
Seventh-round pick Marc Mariani has looked good early in camp at wide receiver. Once thought to be a practice squad candidate, Mariani has looked early on like a poor man’s Wes Welker with his sure-handedness, something sure to please offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger.

Mariani Grabs Attention at Practice Sunday
Staff Report August 1, 2010
Rookie wide receiver Marc Mariani made a diving highlight reel catch during the second practice of training camp at Baptist Sports Park Sunday afternoon.
The seventh round choice from Montana extended for a forty yard pass and catch down the left sideline from quarterback Chris Simms during seven on seven drills. Mariani continued to perform during team sessions, grabbing several passes in the middle of the defense. Mariani said his focus must remain constant on a daily basis.
"I'm just trying to compete," Mariani said. "You have to make plays when the opportunity comes your way and fortunately I had a couple today. Everyday I'm going to have the mindset to get better and that's all I'm trying to do."
First round pick Derrick Morgan practiced for the first time after signing his contract late Saturday night. A left calf injury limited Morgan's involvement and Titans Head Coach Fisher said the team will monitor the injury on a day to day basis.
"He had it back before he left at the end of OTAs," Fisher said. "We just backed him down, he's not 100 percent, he felt it a little bit so we just backed him down. He will eventually get back on the field at full speed."
Fisher said the goal will be to treat the injury before worrying about any concerns over missed time.
"You can't worry about that," Fisher said. "What we're concerned about is getting him back on the field... we'll get him back out there as soon as we can."
Fisher said the focus of the players improved from Saturday's opening practice.
"It was much better today," Fisher said. "Yesterday was a little lethargic, particularly because we did the conditioning test but they got their legs back and we had a much better day today."
The battle for the second starting spot at corner stood out Sunday as Jason McCourty, Ryan Mouton, and Alterraun Verner made their case during one on one drills against the wide receivers and seven on seven drills.
Mouton took the reps with the first team for the second day in a row and made the most of his opportunity, breaking up several passes throughout the practice.
Fisher said the competition at corner will lead to a solid starter opposite Cortland Finnegan and reliable back-up options.
"They're all improving," Fisher said. "We're going to get a good solid starter, maybe two out of that group. They're all improving and it's going to be a fun deal to watch."
Veteran corner Tye Hill missed practice for the second straight day with a strained groin. The six players who began training camp on the PUP list (Tony Brown, Jamar Love, Willie Rose, Nick Schommer, David Thornton, and Damian Williams,) continued to sit out Sunday.

Re: AE Struggling at Training Camp
Take Mariani and switch him to QB and see if he struggles. It's funny, different articles look at AE differently. My assumption is some writers are viewing him as they would any WR draft pick (that played WR in college) and some writers are looking at him as a guy switching positions. Either way, 4 days at TC don't tell much of anything...good or bad. For instance, Kenny Moore is said to be killing it at Panthers' TC, but he's yet to have meaningful time on the field so far in his career at Carolina. I think for most rookies it's a "wait-and-see" approach.ronbo wrote:Yes there is. Keywords: Wide Receiver, NFL Camp, Rookies, AE struggling, Mariani NOT!

I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen out of rookie receiver Armanti Edwards on the field so far and that goes back to May minicamp. The former college quarterback is explosive and makes some big plays. But, listening to Edwards talk after practice, he sounded like we’ve yet to see his best. He admitted he still is very much in an adjustment period. “I expected it to be rough and it’s been what I expected.’’

Scotty McGee and Arthur Moats are doing well and it appears Akeem Jordan has moved back into the starting role, FYI. In case you were interested.

Re: AE Struggling at Training Camp
I was at the first practice on thursday and got to see some of AE. He looked good physically and ran well. Learning routes and consistently making catches will come. Anyone who expected him to come out and be Steve Smith needs to relax some. I stand by my prediction, AE will be a contributor this season for Carolina. AE got A LOT of love from the fans, which is to be expected. His autograph was just as sought after as DeAngelo Williams and Smitty. On a side note, I got Dexter Jackson to sign my Michigan program during which he just
Hopefully Dex can find a spot on this team.

Carolina coach John Fox has got on him about his conditioning. He's still trying to remember all his receiver routes and where to line up. He's looked awkward at times catching — and muffing — punts and kickoffs

He's taller and heavier than Steve Smith with similar speed, but then again Smith's had a pretty mediocre career in spite of poor QB's.BlackFalkin wrote:Carolina coach John Fox has got on him about his conditioning. How much can Armanti Edwards *REALLY* contribute to an NFL team at reciever? CMon He shd be back up qb and punt returner. THATS IT, Hes gonna get killed on kickoff return & probably reciver too. Hes just too skinny.

Re: AE Struggling at Training Camp
No argument on any of those counts, hence he's reportedly struggling at camp a bit - my argument was more on his size than his true position. Jon Fox and the rest of the crowd clearly saw some value there or they wouldn't have drafted him so early. I'm hoping he justifies their confidence.BlackFalkin wrote:AE-real position: QBASUG8 wrote: He's taller and heavier than Steve Smith with similar speed, but then again Smith's had a pretty mediocre career in spite of poor QB's.
