FCS Teams Already Scheduled Out Of 2010 Playoffs

Are there other teams out there besides Weber State that should appear to have a realistic chance at the 2010 playoffs but due to scheduling are most likely already out?

We start with Boston College then end with Texas Tech, as well our last home game is in October and our last 3 games are all on the road at Montana St, NAU, Texas Tech.

Last year was similar except WSU had close losses to Colorado State and Wyoming (winnable FBS games). At 7-4 and getting into the playoffs was pretty unusual with that many losses. This season one would have to assume finishing 7-4 would still be a very good season.

My guess is WSU would need to go 8-0 in Big Sky or at worst 7-1.

September 4: @ Boston College
September 11: Northern Colorado
September 18: @ Sacramento State
September 25: UC Davis
October 2: EWU
October 9: OPEN
October 16: @ Idaho State
October 23: Portland State
October 30: Montana
November 6: @ Montana State
November 13: @ NAU
November 20: @ Texas Tech

if weber had an FCS and DII on the schedule instead of 2 FBS and lost 2 conf games but still finished in 2nd place the team could be 9-2.

isn't 9-2 against a weak schedule better than going 7-4 with a very though schedule regarding the playoffs?

and would it even make a difference if the FBS losses were blowouts compared to a close loss in OT like Cal Poly did at Wisconsin 2 yrs ago? are these factors to the committee?

Those do not appear to be factors to the committee. Also, another thing that some of you guys need to keep in mind is that you would not be 9-2 as far as the committee is concerned. They do not consider the D2 win at all so you still have a good record but it is not 9-2. At the end of the year when people are arguing about their place vs. a team from another conference they always make that mistake.

As far as playoffs go the second scenario is much better but as far as the AD goes the former is probably necessary or the football would not be sustainable in the athletic dept.

Ursus, long time no see...

i forgot the DII's don't count. I guess it could still be 8-2 though with an OOC FCS game win so ya it should be much better regarding the latter. i think that if a team has to play 2 FBS per year might as well play 3, if they need the money itll just be more, the season is screwed anyway, y not?

in 2011 we play wyo and utah st. to me that doesn't make sense, i would assume wyo and usu wouldn't be putting up the kinda dough BC and TT would be. Am i wrong? so you aren't getting the big money and you are still losing. with 2 guaranteed losses why not play florida and texas types?

Good to see you back on as well my man. :thumb:

As far as your assessment...dead on. Right when I saw the Wyo. & UT State I thought the same thing. Why in the hell would they do that! If you're in a financial pinch then this year's schedule makes sense but either of this years FBS's are probably paying what BOTH of next year's are paying together. Well, close at least.

Best case is that you guy's have a bit of luck and win an FBS big game and hopefully it will draw the kind of fan attention you need to start getting some good recognition in your area.

Sac State has Stanford and a non-D1 in weeks 1 and 2. Basically we have a 9 game season. :|

"The farm extension" has Cal, San Jose State, and South Alabama (transitioning school so I don't think they count) so they have a 8 game season. Could be even more if the UXD's aren't done with their transition yet. :?:

Isn't South Alabama entering their second season, thus would be a counter? Unless start up programs are different than D2 move ups.

The way I understand it, both South Alabama and Lamar are considered non-classified due to the moratorium, thus do not count as a D-I win.

does the non DI get you an extra home game? we can't ever get 6 home games, 2 FBS on the road and 1 FCS or nonDI gets us just to 5 home games. we've owed a road game to SUU for about 5 yrs now but we can't get there because of the 2 FBS games or we'd only have 4 home games.

South Dakota State's schedule is absolutely brutal. They are one of the best teams in the country, yet they may struggle to make the playoffs due to the difficulty of it.

Morgan State - 10 game schedule with OOC games against I-A Maryland and DII Bowie State :|

Nicholls State - 4 OOC games are two I-A's (SDSU, WMU) and two DII's (South Alabama, Bacone College) P U

That's the main reason most of us are here Sil, we wanted to find out more and share on the division. I know of them and I think a lot of people have at least heard of them so they may have just slipped past ya. You should go check out the databases at the top of the page cuz all teams are listed there and you can get a good general feel of their location, stadium, conference, etc...

When we were putting the database together last summer I noticed a real lack of information out there on the web for MEAC and SWAC teams so that may be what's hindering you a bit.

Hell, I sent emails to most Athletic Dept's in those conferences and I got exactly 0 responses from them.

Between the 30 or so FCS and FBS schools I emailed, I got a reply from about 5 of the schools. 4 of those replies were "If you are looking for that information you need to contact this person." Well, that person doesn't answer emails.

Well, telling them that their teams suck but that you'd like to hit on their cheerleaders - what kind of responses did you expect?

An immediate one...thanking me for my generosity. I don't share all this glory with everybody you know.

Don't know if they UXD's are "done" with their transition, but they do count as a division I win as far as the playoff committee is concerned. As they did last year as well.

Morgan State IS generally known. A UOP player transferred there after the Tigers dropped the program in '95.

Let's see...
we play Houston
we play SUU - who have won the last 3 meetings
we have a DII
Cal Poly is a toss-up

I think we're out. :?

CatMom:

A game against Houston is winnable. Three straight wins do not guarantee a fourth. Given the presence of Houston (an FBS), a D-II shouldn't hurt too bad so long as you win. A toss-up is NOT a loss.

You may not be as far away from the playoffs as you think.
