A guy posted a simulation thing on here a while ago. If someone can find it we could run a simulation and find out.

A tie, thats some BS. AP would have had 150 easy. Our TO was unstoppable at the time.

I agree AP would have 150 but that alone does not put points on the board. The TO may have been unstoppable, but even Bobby Lamb could slow it down that season.
GSU 10 Furman 45

AP didn't play that game. That team beats Appy by 20+

So am I. The 1999 team was better on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball plus the 1999 team had a senior in Greg Hill, who was the conference POTY (even though AP won the Payton), running the show.

GSU lost three, count them three, first team all american linemen from the 1999 group- OT Rich McGrath, OG Mark Williams (Jacobs trophy), and NT Voncellies Allen; and the guys who replaced them in 2000 just weren't up to that level. Both CB's off the 1999 team went to the NFL and WR Chris Johnson is still playing in the AFL. Don't forget SB and return man Bennie Cunningham either...That team was STACKED.

What the 2000 team had was heart and clutch performers on both sides of the ball (and GREAT coaching) but there was a big talent falloff from 1999 to 2000.

As for App, I thought the 2006 team was better than 2007, particularly defensively and on the o-line.

Ironically, while we're comparing the 2007 App team and the 2000 GSU team, the 2000 and 2007 ASU/GSU games were two of the best games I've ever seen.

The 2000 game was GSU's homecoming and the game was televised and turned into a shootout. It went down to the last 15 seconds before GSU held in the redzone against App's offense. App's team that year wound up losing in OT at Montana in the semis and they were sooooooooo underrated (I still think that was one of Moore's best teams) while GSU defeated Montana in the muck in one of the best title games ever.

In 2007 GSU went into Boone and unleashed Jayson Foster and beat the two time defending NC's and snapping a 30+ game home winning streak by APP in front of 30,000+ and a television audience. Foster did everything but sell programs (playing QB and RB AND catching passes) and Edwards was just fantastic in the second half leading a furious comeback that came down to a clutch Quentin Taylor play on Edwards stopping him inches short of a first down in GSU territory on a fourth down with about a minute left. One of the most exciting games ever and it probably won the Payton for Foster.

Hopefully Monken can bring GSU back to App's level and make the tremendous rivalry great and fun again.

Here's that simulation thingie:

I ran it a few times and it consistently gave that Appy would win 15 to 20 times out of 25.

After the midpoint of the season last year that simulator was pretty damn accurate of predicting the winner if you ran a 25 game series.

I'm not as sure as some of the GSU guys are that the 2K GSU team is the best or even better than the 2007 App team but it is sure debatable.

The '96 Marshall team wasn't too bad either. :coffee: :coffee: :ohno:

2006 Appalachian State was much better than 2007 App State, imo.

I will swear for the rest of my life that Edwards got the first down.

The 2000 App team is Moore's most under rated team in my opinion. I'd put them right below 2009 as App's best non-national title team. 2006 was the best in my opinion as they had the defense to match the offense. 2007 had more offensive firepower, but the defense was highly suspect. 2005 had the defense to match the 2007 offense so that would be a toss-up in my opinion as Richie Williams was no slouch at QB.

The 99 GaSo team couldn't even beat the 99 App State team, much less the 2007 team.

Very loaded with talent and loaded with paid players too...

Toss up between that group and the 1989 GSU 15-0-0 squad for best ever in this division IMO...

The 1989 GSU (in those days GSC) squad had all americans all over the field: Giff Smith and Steve Bussoletti as bookend DE's, Randall Boone at S, Raymond Gross (one of the most underrated players in the history of the division and should have his # retired at GSU) at QB, Joe Ross at FB, and of course the legendary Erk Russell in his swan song as HC.

Here's a nice article about that group: http://www.printereagle.younce.net/history/1989.html

That's real talk.

btw, here's a nice highlight video of the 1989 national championship game between GSU and Stephen F. Austin. " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Ugh, I need to go take a shower now after reading this "Stink" love-fest...disgusting.

 There's a reason GSU is my most hated team...because yall always beat us--except for 1999...what an awesome game for a freshman being introduced to the rivalry to be at.

The 2005 ASU team is still my favorite. The dominate performance by Murrell and Hunter against Northern Iowa in the second half of the Championship game is my favorite half of ASU football ever. Plus, you never forget your first time!
