FCS CHAMPS in a BOWL GAME???

With the NC game now in Jan, I'm not sure how it would be possible, but it certainly would be interesting, and probably a good Pay Day. We just can't afford a 45 - 0 loss.
1. The NCAA Football Issues Committee approved 35 bowls for next year, which means 70 teams must finish 6-6 or better to qualify. If not, a 5-7 team will play in a bowl game. Committee chair Nick Carparelli of the Big East, looking for an alternative, considered inviting the FCS champion to play in an FBS bowl. But by the time the FCS playoffs finish, the winner wouldn’t have time to sell tickets and prepare for the bowl. FYI, history says there will be enough 6-6 teams for the bowls.

They should just take the flagship FCS program and let them play in a bowl game every year. At least then, Montana wouldn't be able to complain about revenue as they should get a ton more off a bowl game vs a Home game.... unless they can convince the NCAA to play the bowl game at WA-Griz. Then we also wouldn't have to hear people complain about Montana never playing FBS teams.

It WOULD kill several birds with one stone, wouldn't it?

I also forgot about this bird:

Then we wouldn't have to put up with you and Ursus talking about it on a 10 page long thread every month or so.

Actually it is just them defending the Griz haters out there....and we all know there are many many more Griz haters than Griz fans.

Ursus should just include it in his "Welcome to CS.com Thread" (or whatever that thread was called) under his tips and pointers section: "If you feel like starting a new thread about why the Griz don't play road OOC/FBS games, please use the search option and examine one of our numerous multipage discussions on the issue."

So the FCS champion would have what, one or two qualifying wins? (the one allowed FCS win, and maybe a FBS win)

No. Because Montana would not get their FBS win until they won the Bowl Game.... :coffee:

You can't name 5 Griz haters here that aren't Bobcat fans.

You have been around long enough to know that there are tons and tons of haters out there. Don't be a fool, well....TRY and not be a fool.

And another thing. " you can't name 5 Griz haters here that aren't Bobcat fans." That is a near impossible statement. Most Griz haters like the Bobcats for atleast one game evey year.

To be hated on is a good thing. No one hates on the Raiders or the Clippers.

That's because the Raiders and the Clippers are on the West Coast. Noone really cares.

I think that would be a really fun game to watch... but who would the FCS Champions play? A middle of the road team like South Carolina or FAU or a powerhouse team like Oklahoma or USC?

I don't think any of us want a 14-1 FCS team playing a 5-7 FBS team because there's nothing to gain from it except the payday.
* If you win, you beat up a weakling
* If it's close, you're almost good enough to be FBS
* If you lose, it's just proof that FCS is inferior
* Plus, you've run the playoff gauntlet already and are likely pretty dinged up

Bad idea. :twocents:

No, that's because the Raiders and Clippers both s-ck. When the Raiders were good, plenty of people cared. Some, astoundingly, still do.

We've talked about this at length here and on the other site

This is the biggest myth of bowl football

I'll type real slow so everybody can read it this time

EVERY SCHOOL LOSES MONEY BY GOING TO A BOWL GAME

I was able to find an artical from a few years ago that even OSU lost money by going to the BCS national "championship"

OSU= Oklahoma State? Ohio State? Oregon State? I wouldn't think Oregon State - every year they're panting for a bowl game.

Very few people understand how bowl payouts work.

Just for shits, lets say you go to a minor bowl that pays 450K, doesn't that sound like a bunch of $$$$????

Well, lets look at what happens to that big payday. Lets say you are in a 10 team conference. The 450K is split into equal 1/11th shares, with the team actually going to the bowl getting 2/11th shares, each of the other 9 conference members receive a 1/11th share.

SO.............

For your 450K bowl payday, you get about 82K. Then you have to buy from the promoter whatever your ticket "allotment" is, weather you can sell them or not, you pay the promoter for them. Then you have to charter a plane or 2 for a flight to god knows where and stay in a hotel for a week, with meals. This is bigger than a normal road game, so you take the entire football staff, most all the athletic directors staff, the team and support staff, all the influential donors and boosters and all the familes of everybody.

All of a sudden that 82K doesn't sound like so much money.

Oh, ye of little faith. What would likely happen is that the FCS Title Game would revert to 15 Dec. Then the winner would be penciled in vs. the MAC Champion for the GMAC Bowl c. 4 or 5 Jan. (You know, the cr@p bowl in the middle of the "big" bowls?) I would think that just about any FCS team good enough to compete for the National Championship could beat just about ANY MAC team. It would allow the FBS elitists to claim that they've let the FCS in the door of their cash cow bowl system without harming the "integrity" of their sacred B(C)$ nonsense.
