The renovation on pge park (where the Portland State Vikings play) has started and will make PGE Park a great place to watch mls soccer and Viking football. This indirectly makes the BSC football better bc PSU no longer plays in a baseball stadium. The stadium will add east sideline seating, snack bar, team stores, has already added field turf & will add a new Jumbotron/video replay board & lcd ribbon....ect.

I think every conference should do this check list to see how well every conference is stepping up.
MVFC teams with field turf:
Illinois State
Indiana State
Missouri State
Northern Iowa
Southern Illinois
Youngstown State
That leaves NDSU, SDSU (who I believe is getting it) and WIU without it.
MVC teams with video replay board - pretty sure every school does
ISUR
ISUB
MSU
NDSU
UNI
SDSU
SIU
WIU
YSU
MVC teams with 15k+ capacity - only Indiana State doesn't
ISUR
MSU
NDSU
UNI
SDSU
SIU
WIU
YSU
MVC teams with no track around stadiums
ISUR
ISUB
NDSU
UNI
YSU

Yes SDSU will be getting Field Turf, it's just a matter of when.
Missouri State and Western Ill are the only MVFC stadiums with a track.

Uh, BF, Sac is presently installing FieldTurf over my strenuous objections. Of course, as the only Hornet fan with such objections, I have been ignored. In fact, the installation may well be complete.

Are you blocking the video board?

Video boards are cool. I just object to high knee and heat injury rates seen with artificial turf. We will lose dates the field could have hosted during the summer unless the events are night-friendly because the field will be too hot (hotter than outside the stadium). Studies of local HS stadia that installed various types of artificial turf bear that out, but my Hornet compatriots are in denial.

Please link to a peer-reviewed journal article which says this. Everything I've read has a similar level of injury in both grass and turf, with a lot of independent studies of just one conflicting with each other. Studies that directly compare the two show no statistically significant difference, some linked below. Only Ekstrand, et al. showed a higher incidence of ankle sprains on turf, but their study had a very small sample size, and should be taken with a grain of salt.

DukeJack nails it. There IS NOT a higher rate of injury on the new stuff. There may have been on the old shit that was laid over concrete but not the field turf. The heat issue may be a problem for some states but it is more beneficially in the Montana climate than a detraction and if we're talking about a dome then it is not an issue at all.

The heat is only an issue in states like Arizona, Texas, Louisana, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and George between the months of July-September. There have so many advancements in terms of gear keeping people cool, water/gatorade requirements, fans/misters, etc... the last 10 years that the heat is almost a non issue if it is handled correctly.
The injury rate on the old turf had nothing to do with the turf it self, and the fact it was mostly laid over concrete/other hard surface with little or no padding under it.

Glad to see the upgrades at PGE happening. I think it'll be a nice venue once complete - less baseballish than the current configuration.

I have not been able to get behind the city of Portland's plan to turn PGE Park into a soccer stadium due to my own beliefs of displacing the baseball team, however I cannot deny the improvements will benefit greatly the PSU football program.
