It isn't official yet, but it appears Cody Davies, a 6-2, 185 lbs. FR from Bozeman, MT will transfer to The Citadel to compete for the starting QB spot in The Citadel's recently installed triple option offense.

He was a walk-on at MSU. His father is the assistant AD here. Very good kid from a great family.

Good luck Cody.

This move confuses me unless he's planning a military career after college. As the son of a guy on staff, he'd have the equivalent to a schollie (or partial) in tuition breaks as one basketball player I knew at UOP while I was there (dad was a professor). That frees up a schollie.

A Citadel education would look good if this kid wants to go to OCS, particularly for the Army or even the Marine Corps. But otherwise, he might well be saying goodbye to a free or at least highly discounted education. That's not something to be regarded lightly, especially in this economy.

It really isn't all that complicated, SH. He obviously felt there was more money in a career as a doorman than there is in a career as a pig farmer.

Wonder if it is Darius Bell, a QB who signed with MSU a couple of years ago and quit because he wasn't going to get the playing time his dad thought. He was in fall camp and lasted about two weeks.

AZ, don't be too hard on him. I heard MSU has an excellent picture drawing program.

Here is a post from Will Holden of the Chronicle
I have heard rumors that a former MSU quarterback was transferring to The Citadel. One of the beat writers down there & I talked & kind of concluded it was probably Darius Bell. I would be absolutely shocked if it was Cody Davies & I don't believe it for a second.
Not saying it isn't Cody Davies but Will probably has more knowledge about the Bobcats than anyone.

My guess would be that he was lured by the state of the art facilities there.

It's usually a good idea to know what the hell you are talking about before you start talking.

One might say the same for YOU. My points were this:

1. If it were motivated by the potential of a military career, then it's a brilliant move. Having spent 17 years in the military, I know that a goodly number of officers come from places like Citadel, VMI, etc.

2. If it's motivated by anything else, it makes one wonder. A free or semi-free education against paying for one? Oh, sure, he might be able to get the government to pay off the loans if he DOES go into the military, but he's still got to pay it first. In this economy, he'd better have a plan if he's walking away from a near-sure thing.

I'm sure the kid doesn't have nearly the depth of thought or intellect that you do SH so he will probably welcome your input on the matter. I doubt he has any sort of a plan as to why he's doing this. People generally make these kinds of decisions without regard to their future plans.

He may just be newly out of the closet and thinking about that cute little hat he gets to wear.
