What Rising Freshman Will Have Biggest Impact This Yr?

My top 5 goes like this:

1) Andre Dawson- Should have winded up at a top tier BCS school but opted for Northern Iowa. Was a 5.8 4* on Rivals.com. One of the top players out of Iowa this year, had over 2000 all purpose yards in one of Iowas toughest conferences. Major get for Northern Iowa.

2)William Robinson- The rivals rated 3* OL from Washington, DC was committted to Buffalo at one point in time, but a coaching change made him back out of his committment and now he is a NC A&m Aggie. The 6'4 300 pound williams is versatile to play all 5 positions on the line, big, but yet very athletic for his size.

3)Taurice King- The 6'3 215 LB from Yazoo city is one of the most underratted LB's in the country this year. Many don't know about him YET, but Jackson state got a MAJOR steal.

4) Josh Alaeze- Alaeze is the brother of 2005 Parade All American Melvin Alaeze who signed with Maryland but seen Legal issues early in his career. Alaeze, 6'2 245 Pound D-End is another player who opted the HBCU rout instead of FBS football. Was also the defensive MVP of the Maryland Crab Bowl Which is the state all star game which featured players like Louis Young(GA Tech), Adrian Coxson(Florida), Billy Cosh(Kansas state), and Arie Kouandigo(Alabama). Major Steal for DSU, and with the loss of alot of top defensive players, I expect big things from him early on.

5) Ronnie Harris- Harris broke 6 Maryland State football records this year. One of the most underratted players on the east coast, Harris set the record for most recieving touchdowns in a season, most in a career, most recieving yards in a game, most in a year, most in a career, as well as most catches in a game( 21 in state semi finals.) University of New Hampshire is getting a a sure fire, sure handed reciever from Maryland.

Dare I say Dillon Romain at Albany........ 8-)

2008 NJ Player of the Year for Don Bosco Prep.
Averaged 300+ yards a game at Blair Academy this year.

The jury is definitely out, but he's got the potential to be the next 1800 yard rusher at Albany...

I know fellow Hornet fans are going to smack me for this, but they can see it coming a mile away.

The biggest impact from a first-year player will be Dominic Carmazzi, the incoming grayshirt at Sacred City. His older brother Gio took Hofstra (R.I.P.) to the playoffs after UOP gave up the ghost in '95. I fully expect Dom to be equally successful for Sacred City.

Yes a smack is deserved. Carmazzi won't see the field this season. With all the returning offensive players, the only freshman that might have a chance to shine for Sac would be a defensive newcomer.

I'll roll with Gavin Webster...we're losing a three-year starter at QB, and while we feel really good with the two we have on campus now, Webster has game-changing ability and the type who could make a big impact right away in the SLC...

Gavin Webster Video

Also wouldn't rule out RB, Jordan Wells...

Defensively, Aaron Harris has a the ability to make a big impact even though we're pretty loaded with upperclassmen LBs...Harris played DE in high school, but will play LB for us.

For the Ags it's WR Tom Hemmingsen out of Monte Vista HS in Danville. The guy is a Tony Kays V.2.0, insane work ethic and motor.

W&M was able to steal a late signee who looks like he could be an immediate impact player. Airek Green, a 6'2" 200 safety did not play his Junior year to concentrate on basketball, and returned for 2009 to lead Thomas Dale to the Virginia AAA Division 6 title. Green was named district, regional and state POY, and was the Richmond Times Dispatch All-Metro POY. He has been compared to Darren Sharper by coaches in the Richmond area, which is where Sharper grew up.

Oh that is a big grab. I remember hearing about him after his sophomore year, was supposed to be the next big thing from that area but opted for another sport. Glad he chose football because his upside is tremendous.

A couple of names from Southern being talked about although I'm hoping neither of the QBs isn't pressed in to action:

Dray Joseph - West St. John High, The 6-foot, 195-pound senior passed for 1,650 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also rushed for 665 yards and four more scores.

William Waddel - WR Booker T. Washington High (Houston) 6'4" 200lb. 30 catches 504 yards 16.8 yards per catch 9 TDs

Wynton Perro - QB Booker T. Washington High (Houston)- 6'1" 171 lbs. He's the QB in the Waddel video

If we are talking redshirt freshmen I would say these three look to make an impact in 2010:

No. 12 Cougar Williams
Wide Receiver
5-9 • 170 • Freshman
Hanford, CA / Hanford HS

High School -- Williams caught 70 passes for 950 yards and a dozen touchdowns as a senior under head coach Josh Young at Hanford High School in the San Joaquin Valley. Williams, who also scored four rushing touchdowns, three more on punt returns and another on an interception return, helped lead the Bullpups to an 11-2 overall record, a second-place finish in the West Yosemite League and a berth in the championship game of the CIF-Central Section Division III playoffs for the first time in 26 years. Williams caught 11 passes and intercepted one pass for the Bullpups in the title game, won 21-14 by Tehachapi. He finished with 24 tackles and three interceptions on defense for the season. Williams was named to the Fresno Bee’s 2008 All-Star Team, nine months after making the Bee’s 2007-08 All-Star Basketball Team and earning West Yosemite League MVP honors. “He has deceptive speed and great vision,” Young told the Fresno Bee. “I think he gets that in basketball. He sees a lane and takes it, real smooth with good cuts and long steps for his frame. He provided a lot of leadership for the team, too. He’s a special guy who gives everything he’s got on every play, is great in the classroom and very generous with his time. He’s a great citizen with a big heart.” The Bullpups won the CIF-Central Section Division III basketball championship in 2008 with a 31-4 record. Williams averaged 13.5 points and 8.1 assists as a junior for Hanford and earned all-state Division II honors as a senior, averaging 20.4 points, 6.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game. As a junior in football, Williams earned all-league honors and had 50 receptions for 742 yards and eight touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded 25 tackles and had five interceptions. Williams has 4.5 speed in the 40.

Williams was Cal Poly offensive scout team player of the year.

No. 43 Johnny Millard
Safety
6-3 • 190 • Freshman
Dublin, CA / Foothill HS

High School -- A son of former Washington State and Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman Keith Millard, Johnny notched 116 tackles, including 23 for lost yardage, as a senior under head coach John Mannion at Foothill High in Pleasanton. The Falcons were 9-3 overall, 5-2 for a second-place tie in the East Bay League and reached the semifinal round of the CIF-North Coast Section Division I playoffs before falling to De La Salle. Millard recorded 12 pass breakups, nine forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries, three sacks and a pair of interceptions last fall. He earned first-team All-East Bay Athletic League honors and also landed a spot on the San Francisco Chronicle’s All-Metro team.

Millard was defensive scout team player of the year.

No. 38 Xavier Ramos
Safety
6-0 • 177 • Freshman
Ventura, CA / St. Bonaventure HS

High School -- Ramos helped lead St. Bonaventure to a pair of state championships as an outside linebacker under head coach Todd Therrien. Ramos notched 58 tackles, three forced fumbles and 10 pass breakups as a junior free safety as the Seraphs captured the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division title as well as the CIF State Division III championship, beating Central Catholic of Modesto 35-21 and finishing with a 14-1 record. Last fall Ramos recorded 72 tackles, one sack, four forced fumbles, one interception and 13 pass breakups as St. Bonaventure again earned the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division title en route to the CIF State Division III championship with a 28-6 win over Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa, again capping a 14-1 campaign. St. Bonaventure has won 133 of its last 140 games and 13 straight Channel League titles. The Seraphs have reached the CIF-Southern Section championship game in their division nine times in the last 10 years, winning eight titles. Ramos, who has a 4.86 time in the 40, chose Cal Poly over UC Davis, South Dakota, Portland State and Army. He earned first-team All-Channel League honors as a senior and was on the second team as a junior. Ramos also played basketball as a freshman and sophomore and is a four-year honor roll student-athlete.

Ramos made national headlines when he verbaled to Oregon and a week later they pulled the offered. Their loss is Cal Poly gain. He is a beast who hits like a tank. I was talking to one of the coaches and he said Ramos would be a Cal Poly legend by the time he graduates. He said the first team WR hated going against him in practice because he was so physical.

If we are talking true freshmen I would say it would have to be:

James Langford, K, 6-3, 178, Pleasanton, CA (Foothill HS)
As a senior under head coach John Mannion at Foothill High School, Langford made eight of 12 field goals, including four of 40 or more yards, and 44 of 44 extra-point kicks. On kickoffs, 86 percent resulted in touchbacks. Langford earned first-team All-East Bay Athletic League and third-team Cal Hi Sports all-state honors as a kicker and earned CIF-North Coast Section scholar-athlete honors with a 3.2 GPA. The Falcons were 7-5 in 2009, finishing tied for fifth in the EBAL and reaching the quarterfinal round of the CIF-North Coast Section Division I playoffs before losing to De La Salle. Langford kicked a 57-yard field goal in the fourth annual Holiday Classic in December at Grant High School in Sacramento, sending the game into overtime. As a junior, Langford was 59-for-62 on PAT kicks and five of six in field goals with a 70 percent touchback rate on kickoffs as Foothill posted a 9-3 overall mark, finished tied for second in the EBAL and reached the semifinal round of the CIF-North Coast Section Division I playoffs. Langford, who earned All-EBAL honors as a junior, also competes in track and field, specializing in the 800, 1,500 and 3,000. He chose Cal Poly over being a preferred walk-on at Stanford. He also received interest from Stanford, Oregon State, San Diego State, Washington State, San Jose State, Cal, Utah State, Montana State, and others.

Or

K.J. Cusack, RB, 5-9, 165, Santa Maria, CA (St. Joseph HS)
Cusack rushed for 1,845 yards, scored 33 touchdowns (31 rushing) and averaged 25.2 yards per punt return as a senior under head coach Mike Hartman at St. Joseph High School in Santa Maria. He carried the ball 134 times and averaged a state-leading 13.77 yards per rush, leading the Knights to a 12-1 overall record, 7-0 mark for first place in the Los Padres League (three league titles in four years) and to the semifinal round of the CIF-Southern Section Northwest Conference playoffs before losing to eventual state Division III champion Serra. Cusack produced eight games of 100 yards or more rushing, including four 200-plus efforts. His season high was 261 yards and four touchdowns in a first-round playoff game against El Segundo and he averaged 153.8 rushing yards per contest. Cusack had nine runs of 57 yards or more, including a 99-yarder, He also caught 12 passes for 205 yards. Cusack earned first-team All-Area (as selected by the Santa Maria Times), All-Los Padres League, all-CIF-Southern Section Northwest Conference and all-state medium schools by Cal Hi Sports. He also was named All-Area, All-Santa Barbara County and All-Los Padres League MVP, was a team captain and helped St. Joseph to school records for wins in a season (12) and a 12-game winning streak. Cusack returned two punts for touchdowns in the season opener against Bishop Diego (62 and 67 yards), returning 21 punts a total of 530 yards for the season, and also averaged 27.3 yards per kickoff return (12 for 327 yards). As a defensive back, he notched 35 tackles and intercepted a pair of passes. In his junior season, Cusack was first-team all-league as a cornerback with 44 tackles and five interceptions; on offense he rushed for 563 yards and six scores and caught 10 passes for 150 yards and two more touchdowns. A 4.46 sprinter in the 40-yard dash, Cusack also received scholarship offers from Air Force, Miami of Ohio, Army, Portland State, Wyoming and Sacramento State. Cusack also plays basketball at St. Joseph.

Or

Dave Douglas, RB/SS, 5-11, 196, Oakland, CA (Oakland Senior HS)
Douglas played two varsity seasons at St. Elizabeth High School in Oakland, accumulating over 2,100 yards rushing, before transferring to Oakland Senior High School for his senior season. Under head coach Desmond Gumbs at Oakland last fall, Douglas rushed for 920 yards and 17 touchdowns while, on defense, recorded 212 tackles and four interceptions. In an 18-6 win over Skyline, Douglas rushed 17 times for 201 yards and two scores, returned an interception 45 yards for another touchdown and notched 12 tackles. He earned first-team All-Oakland Athletic League, All-Oakland City and All-East Bay honors as a defensive back. Douglas played in the East Bay vs. Sacramento All-Star Game. Oakland finished 4-5-1 for the season and tied for fourth place in the Oakland Athletic League at 2-3. Douglas had a 4.6 time in the 40-yard dash and also plays basketball at Oakland High, currently averaging 4.3 points per game. He rushed for 1,300 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior and 867 yards as a sophomore at St. Elizabeth, leading the Mustangs to the CIF-North Coast Section Class B title in 2007. On defense as a junior, he notched 217 tackles and intercepted nine passes, returning four for touchdowns. Douglas earned first-team All-Bay Football League and All-East Bay honors as a junior and was MVP of the CIF-North Coast Section Division V runner-up team. Douglas, who won the Coaches Alliance Award from Stanford and is a National Honor Society member, had received scholarship offers from Fresno State, San Diego State, Army and Southern Utah.
