Coastal Carolina quarterback Jamie Childers solidified his standing as the Chants number one signal caller following an intra-squad scrimmage at Brooks Stadium in the final test of the spring.

Before a sparse crowd of only 586 fans, Childers completed the only two passes he threw, one for a touchdown leading the Teal squad to a 25-7 victory over the Black team.

Childers also ran for 38 yards on five carries. Jonathan Morgan and Jon Greene out of Socastee caught TD passes for the Teal and Dominique Davenport was solid on defense returning an interception 39 yards for another score.

Another defensive standout was Ronnie Mason with two and a half sacks for the Teal squad which held the Black team to minus-8 yards rushing.

As for the Black team, Philip Oboh led everyone with 11 tackles. Trent Usher had eight catches for 86 yards and caught one TD pass thrown by Wake Forest transfer Zach MacDowall.

The scrimmage lasted one hour and 25 minutes.

Coastal Carolina head coach David Bennett says,"Childers is still our starting quarterback going into the fall, but you never know. It's a long way till that first ball game, they'll compete hard when the come to camp August One."

That's fantastic! I hope Jamie comes out as the starter.

I believe he will barring an injury. He just looks so relaxed when he's out there compared to the others. Confidence is the key and he's got it.

It's one thing playing in front of a small crowd against people you know. But when it comes time for Gameday, it will be a different expierence and the red shirt won't be there to protect him. Hopefully, he'll be able to remember and keep the confidence he has and work his hardest to execute plays to..a..T.(and I think he'll be just fine)

They used to, but we're better now. We brought in some Citadel Cadets from the 1990 class that have experience working with nuts on thier chins.
