W&M enhances class with Virginia State Def. POY

Airek Green, a 6'1" 198 safety from Richmond's Thomas Dale H.S. signed with the Tribe on Sunday. Green had been under the radar after skipping football his junior year to focus on basketball. He led Thomas Dale to the Virginia AAA title, and was named first team all-state...VaPreps AAA State Def. POY...Richmond Times Dispatch Metro POY...Central Region Def. POY.

Nice for the Tribe. Any reason why you think the Hoikes & Cavs or ACC teams ignored a 1st team all-stater?

He didn't really get any press until late in his senior year because he did not play as a junior, and was thought to be focused on basketball. VaPreps had a preseason list of 450 prospects, and he wasn't on it, but by the end of the year was named their state def. POY. With all the FBS programs focused on Juniors, it's not a surprise they missed him. UVA apparently got involved late.
