Staten Island, NY - Wagner College head football coach Walt Hameline has announced that 21 student-athletes have elected to continue their education while pursuing a football career with the Seahawks. Nine members of the 2010 recruiting class are already enrolled at Wagner and will take part in spring practice headlined by local products Torian Phillips and Sean Munson, each of whom hail from Staten Island.
Phillips was the wiinner of the Al Fabbri and Fred Fugazzi awards as the top player on Staten Island in 2008 after leading Port Richmond to the 2008 PSAL city championship as a senior, starring at defensive back and wide receiver. As a senior, he was the Island’s top receiver, with 23.9 yards per catch and his 34 career touchdowns are the second-most in Staten Island history.
Munson set a Staten Island record during his senior season with 65 receptions and was a Staten Island Advance All-Star.
