Newbie with question. When preparing for an upcoming game, how much opponent game film does a FCS football coach have access to? How far back? Does it depend on in-conference or not, or first time foe or not?

Every game they've played that year. In some cases, for first games of the season or a team that has run the same offense or defense, past games in older seasons. Coaches have a rotation of game films.
Usually you watch game films of other teams that run similar style offense or defense that you do.

Some conferences require film exchange within the conference. It is a professional courtesy to exchange films with coaches that request them.

Not in all cases. The Big South only requires four games. Non-conference games are agreed upon by the coaches. I know that Coastal Carolina's coach has always only given two games by trade.

If you're playing against UNI you won't get any film (though it won't matter)
But in all seriousness it varies by conference as far as I remember, or is agreed upon by coaches prior to the game.
