Just read that Jay Mills is one of ten finalists for the Nichols St. job. Anybody know who else is on that list?

Tim Rebowe (current asst ULaLa) and Frank Monica. Both names have come up but this is what we have on BCF as of 12/20.
From FootballScoop on 12/31
Nicholls State:
The 10 finalists are: Jeremy ‘Bo’ Atterberry, assistant head coach/defensive coordinator at Southeastern Oklahoma State; William Hickson, assistant coach at Liberty; Hud Jackson, assistant head football coach at Central Arkansas; Kent Keith, interim head coach at Nicholls State; Jay Mills, head coach at Charleston Southern; Frank Monica, head coach/defensive coordinator at St. Charles Catholic High; Tim Rebowe, assistant coach at Louisiana-Lafayette; James Spady, assistant coach/offensive coordinator at Grambling; Charlie Stubbs, assistant coach/offensive coordinator at Central Missouri; and Charlie
Weatherbie, former head coach at Louisiana-Monroe. “We as the search committee were very pleased with the amount of qualified applicants for the position and believe we have narrowed it down to the best 10 candidates,” said Jason Dagate, search committee chairman, in a statement.
Nicholls loves the triple O offense. Anyone know if any of these guys are into that?

Word is they're trying to get away from option football...one of the reasons why they fired Jay supposedly.

Crap, you mean we won't have to take extra time out for learning to defend this and then beating the snot out of them?

If they are looking to get away from the triple option, then I fear that CSU may be losing Mills.

Why would he leave CSU? Is Nicholls State really a step up?

Good question. Nichols won't be able to pay more then $100,000 I don't think. But I doubt CSU has a big budget either.

He put his application in like the rest of the 40 someodd coaches. Must be some reason for it. I know his salary with stipend at CSU is right at 100K give or take but not sure if Nichols is a step up or not since I have no idea the history of that program or what the facilites are like. I know CSU has some massive facility upgrades planned in the next 5 years starting with a new field house coming next year, lights and then stadium expansion. I say we may lose him because the offense he runs of about as far removed from any kind of option offense. If they are looking to move away, that is about as far as they could move.
Personally, I hope he stays. He has done more for that program in 6 years than anyone ever imagined he could and got the administrators to commit the funds and personnel needed to grow the program.

Barring something unforeseen, your guy has no shot at the Nicholls job...they'll either hire a local high school coach - Frank Monica - or a current UL-Lafayette assistant in Tim Rebowe. They could also opt for Charlie Weatherbie, who was just fired at ULM. I doubt seriously they hire anyone from outside the area...but that's all speculation of course.

And that would suit us Buc fans just fine. Mills is a great coach and great mentor for these guys and has done more than any of us Alumni ever expected with the program in this short period of time. Would like to have him around for awhile longer.

Mills has been trying to get out of CSU for a while. He's applied at quite a few jobs the past few years. He wanted the South Alabama job bad. He's a great coach and deserves more than what CSU can give him.
