Wonder if the delay will hurt recruiting, at all.Willie wrote:Paper said not until the AFCA meeting in January, at the earliest.
If it were any other school the answer would be yes. Montana may have enough lure being a flagship and with the history that they may be OK.dbackjon wrote:Wonder if the delay will hurt recruiting, at all.
Actually O'Day said a coach will be announced prior to the meeting which is the second week of Jan. The selection committee will meet again starting on Mon.- I'll be surprised if the new coach isn't named this coming week.Willie wrote:Paper said not until the AFCA meeting in January, at the earliest.
O'Day said a "Selection Review Committee" had its first meeting today (Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 23),and began the evaluation process.
The committee is comprised of 10 people: UM representatives Foley, Jean Gee, Senior Associate Athletic Director, Student Services/Compliance; Dave Guffey, Associate Athletic Director for External and Media Relations; Kent Haslam, Associate Athletic Director-Development; Dr. Jim Lopach, Professor and Chairman of Political Science and UM's Faculty Athletic Representative; O'Day; J.C. Weida, Associate Athletic Trainer, as well as three individuals from the community.
The committee will break during the Christmas holidays, and secure additional information on candidates in the interim. The Selection Review Committee will reconvene on Monday, Dec. 28th.
O'Day said that UM will name a new head coach prior to the National Football Coaches Convention, which is held in the second week of January.
I don't think a split among the committee will be any holdup, O'Day has stated that regardless of the committee the decision will be his alone in conjunction with the presidents approval.dbackjon wrote:I would think they would name one this week as well.
If it is from the staff, they know them well. IF it is Doeren or Van Diest, they still should be familiar with them.
Only hold-up would be if the committee is split on who to hire, or if they need to secure enough financial commitment for a coach like Doeren.
Recruiting is in a "dead" period until Jan. 1, so the timing shouldn't be a big factor if a coach is named this week. Of course depending on who is named, it will take time to assemble a staff and concentrate on recruiting.dbackjon wrote:Wonder if the delay will hurt recruiting, at all.Willie wrote:Paper said not until the AFCA meeting in January, at the earliest.
