UNI picks up one of the lost souls from the demise of the Northeastern football program...

Brian Palangi, a 6'4" 300 lb center has transfered to UNI effective January...
"I got lucky in that the football is an upgrade from Northeastern," said Palangi, who will begin at NIU after the holidays for the spring semester and has three seasons of NCAA eligibility left. "I'm happy — I'm not going to look back. I have to look forward."

And for you folks in Iowa, a quick pronunciation lesson...his hometown is pronounced Swamps-cut...

Now, you guys can swamp the newspaper with your complains about NIU vs. UNI...

There are one or two guys from NU and Hofstra that have signed with FBS teams, but what makes you assume that there are any other guys that have the choice to go to an FBS school?

And what do you mean what happens to guys that don't get picked up? They can walk on anywhere they want. They are essentially free agents. Their 5 year academic clock doesn't stop ticking though. They still only get 4 years of eligiblity in the 5 years following their first day in the classroom at NU or Hofstra.

I should've been more specific... would the next school honor their previous scholarships? And to answer YOUR question...seeing that most walk ons dont play/start, if your gonna walk on, why not walk on at the best school possible... you might even get a NC ring.

The next school isn't required to honor their scholarship. NU and Hofstra both said they would honor the scholarships if they kids decided to stay though.

In reference to walking on, most of these kids transfering aren't going to be "walk-ons" at the new schools. They're being offered some kind of scholarship to transfer. And not anyone can just walk-on at most schools, especially FBS schools. What most consider walk-ons are now "preferred walk-ons". They are recruited and offered a roster spot. There is no try-out - they just don't get a scholarship right away. There really isn't the chance for just any student to try out for the team.

Thanks, however your wrong about the walk ons... And if a kid was able to get a skollie at a FCS you dont think he could walk onto a fbs? Especially a mid major ex. Hawaii.

I agree that if a kid was able to get a scholly at an FCS school he'd def be given a chanec to walk-on at an FBS school. But why would he want to if he can get another scholly at an FCS school?

And how am I wrong about walk-ons?

way ahead of you (check out the first comment on the article. though I wasn't "complaining", just correcting.

And why would we care about the pronounciation of some small town out east when they can't get our school name right? :ugeek:
