According to Chaves, OSU is under contact to play Eastern in Corvallis, Ore., on Sept. 4, in a guaranteed money game that would be worth $375,000 to the Eagles. But the Beavers are currently working out details to play Texas Christian University on that day, instead, in a showdown of expected Football Bowl Subdivision powers that would be nationally televised by ESPN from Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

In lieu of that attractive inter-regional matchup, the details of which are still be finalized, the parties involved – particularly ESPN – are working on helping Eastern fill the resulting Sept. 4 void on its schedule with another acceptable FBS opponent in a game that would match or surpass the monetary reward that would have come from playing OSU.
In the event that ESPN cannot find an FBS replacement for us, it'll likely be worked out that OSU pays EWU $200k for backing out and we'll be free to find a replacement ourselves. Hopefully the replacement will be a team we'd have a remote shot of actually beating instead of all the AP ranked BCS opponents we have a recent history of scheduling. Wazzu or SJSU would be a welcome change.

Baylor plays TCU that week. Looks like they plan on pulling out of that game.

Baylor fans would be pissed. They already have Sam Houston scheduled. No way they play two FCS teams. Though they are desperate for a six win season and a bowl.

My brother is a big Baylor fan and says they expect to play TCU on a mutual bye week.

There's always Boise State. Or how about an FCS counter and play San Diego. Those don't work, call Montana Tech.

Am I the only one that is more than a little concerned and even pissed that ESPN can start messing with schools and their football schedules?

When does the monster quit growing for God's sake? :ohno:

As a college football fan, and not just a FCS snob, I'm OK with this. If I can watch TCU or Boise play some BCS schools I'm fine with that. Other than EWU fans, did anyone wanna see that blowout anyway?

I am pretty sure Wazzu is playing MSU that day.

This situation helped Maine tremendously this year with $$$$. Got paid an exhorbant amount of $$$$ to not play Florida State so Florida State could play Miami on Labor Day. Then Maine picked up Syracuse and got paid again.

Maine pocketed about $1 million in the deal and got to play a relatively close game against a regional FBS opponent (the week after losing to Albany might I add).

I wonder if this will affect us. TxSt is supposed to play TCU again in 2010 last I heard.

Of course I would've watched the game because it's EWU, but as a fan I'd much rather see us play a team we'd have a shot of putting up a fight against. Barring a dropdown at QB, we'll have a freshman at the spot again, circa 2006: the last time EWU played OSU and Nichols' first game of his college career. I have a feeling the beat-down would be even worse in 2010 than it was in 2006 (56-17), especially with the Rodgers brothers.

So I've heard unofficially from our JUCO QB transfer that we're replacing OSU with Nevada. Still a likely loss, but I'd say we have a better chance against Nevada than we did against OSU.

Strangely enough, this same scenario is why App St played Michigan. :D

-App and LSU were scheduled to kick off the 2007 season.
-ESPN approached LSU for a Thursday game vs Miss St.
-LSU pushed back App for one year.
-At about the same time, Michigan backed out out playing Vanderbilt.
-Michigan's last ditch efforts at a game with Hawai'i feel through so they were stuck with us.
