NCAA Div I Football Championship presented on ESPN By Enterprise Rent-A-Car - Appalachian State vs. Montana 3:00 PM ESPN HD
Please, for the love of GOD, tell me it'll be on regular ESPN and not just HD. Someone will die that day if not.

There is a difference between ESPN and ESPN HD? They always have the same thing on here.

The question is: will they actually bring their HD cameras?

The last ESPN game at Montana was the UMass game right? I can't remember whether that was in HD or not.

I think that just means that it will be in HD for those who have HD TVs and service. If you don't, then you'll just see it in standard def. If you go to the ESPN TV listings (http://sports.espn.go.com/espntv/espnGuide) it lists the game on both channels.

BTW - anyone use HD antenna yet? The HD picture is way better than cable (something about no compression) Too bad you can only get crappy broadcast stations and no ESPN, etc....

We get CBS and NBC HD on my buddy's TV, and it doesn't look any better than HD channels on my parents' TV, who have digital cable.

Where the hell is Cleets when you need him?

I have an HD antenna on our bedroom TV. Has a cable connection that allows you to get cable channels and the HD channels via the antenna.

Hmmm...maybe what I saw is either (a) a bad digital cable feed which makes the HD air broadcast look better or (b) a good HD antenna?

I don't know squat about over-the-air broadcasts.

My guess would be a little of both. I know Comcast really misers out the bandwidth. Even though it technically is high definition, it is just barely in my opinion. So if you get a really good local broadcast over the air, it could easily look better than what you saw on cable.

I have Cablevision so its probabbly barely HD as well. I just recently switched back from FIOS and there is a dramatic difference in picture quality on the HD channels from FIOS to Cablevision. I saw the over-the-air HD at a friend's house.

Okay, settle down people...

HD as a broadcasting "standard" is related to "Lines of resolution" or "Pixel count"

720P or 1080i or 1080P are the acceptable HD broadcast standards, any & all of these will look very (almost exactly) similar on a consumer model flat panel television for lots of reason - mostly due to the televisions de-interlacing capability and pixel processing capability as well as they way the image is broadcast - due to compression

ESPN and ESPN HD are NOT the "same channel" as they both have different "channel numbers" they are however very likely the same programming... the same programming simply processed differently and sent out to your set-top-box in different channel locations at different pixel rates

Today ESPN uses exclusively HD cameras - even if the event is being televised in Standard Def it will still be captured and processed (initially) in HD, it will also be archived in HD

Okay: Any questions..?
