What all affects do this decisions have???



For one, travel costs for the remaining CAA North schools have increased, as two bus trip are gone.

Almost three hundred mile gsp from northern most south team to Southern most north team

CAA is now stronger overall than the MAC conference.... soon to be overtaken? Conference USA.

Reading some guys twitter now who is listening in on the conference call with Comish Yeager:

The guy is affiliated with Northeastern who is retyping the quotes.

stronger, definitely and I think that you may see the two divisions eliminated, at least for now. When ODU and GSU come in the conference will have to realign.

Wow, pretty amazing that Hofstra didn't even let the commish know what they were planning to do...

By the way Hofstra fans have talked about their administration, don't be surprised that they didn't let the CAA know. They barely let their own donors know anything, let alone the conference.

Another potential fall-out of this is more schools discussing with their financial woes amongst each other.

I know this is already happening.

There are currently two proposals being floated amongst FCS schools, one of which would change FCS in a huge way.....

They are (i) lowering the FBS counter rules to 50 scholarships (From 90% of 63) and (ii) lowering the maximum number of scholarships allowed from 63 to 50 for FCS schools.

Neither has been officially proposed in the NCAA council, but they are being floated members to FCS and FBS schools.

The latter will cause a major shakeup and would push about 10 or so schools to try and jump to FBS sooner rather than later.

What I do know is that there are a lot of schools struggling to make ends meet right now.

Dropping the 63 down to 50. I would think, for schools that have a quality program, your scenario of making a early move up would be correct. I could see the top schools in every major FCS conference doing it.

Let's all hope that this stops with Northeastern and Hofstra. I'm worried that we'll see more schools drop football in the next few years.

Assuming the FBS schools don't put the kabash on that with another moratorium or a de fact restriction.

There was talk of a $1 million application fee for moving up a few months ago.

So no full CAA schools in the north

URI will not drop football this year...

Feel crummy for all concerned in the Hofstra and Northeastern communities. Regarding the student atheletes---are they eligible to play next year elsewhere? If so, will ODU coaching staff be getting frequent flyer miles in northeast corridor in weeks ahead?

They can transfer without penalty

We should all hope that more CAA schools drop football just so the CAA will be a "normal sized conference".
All of FCS will benefit.

Interesting. NDSU might have been competitive back in its old DII home. Doubt they could have handled NAIA Sioux Falls, however.

I'll vouch for that. Many of our guys did that when UOP dropped their program after the '95 season.

At least the NE and Hofstra coaches have three or more weeks than the UOP coaches did to find jobs. The school dropped the axe on us less than a week before Christamas and didn't even bother to call the team in to tell them. Most of us found out on the evening news while the coaches were out recruiting. What a cr@ppy way to do it, too. During semester break when nobody's around to protest.

The one good thing UOP did was that they honored schollies for those that had them if they chose to stay AND if they came back after finishing their eligibility elsewhere. Is there any word on what NE and Hofstra are doing about that?
