Who's the best team?

In reality, who really knows. The problem is that there is not enough OCC play between the best teams and best conferences. So in reality it's really hard to know which team really is the best. Did the CAA play one team from the Big SKy? Did the MVC teams play anyteams from the SoCon conference? Or better yet the top teams in each conference don't play each other, they mosty just beat up on each other. ( know Mcneese st played App which is good, but Edwards wasn't 100% in that game.) My point is that Richmond, Villanova, SIU, App, Montana, Elon don't have any common opponents out of conference(that I can think of). So people can what they want about the CAA's dominance but did any of the top teams beat any top teams from any other conference. No. So out of UM, SIU, Elon, Appy, Richmond, Villanova, and Bill and Mary whose the best team?
Nobody knows they can only speculate.

At this time of the season some teams have peaked, some are peaking, and some haven't yet peaked. The team in the third category with the fewest injuries is the front runner.

I think that is what the playoffs are for.

OOC games are often limited by geography and travel costs. Cross country trips to play a "name" opponent are rare and getting rarer. They do still occasionally happen (ex. SDSU and Georgia Southern this year). Some conferences are so spread out that their travel costs are already high and they try to find local OOC opponents. That is why you see the MVFC playing the OVC more than the CAA. The playoffs is the main time we see the trips that give us a better comparison. The great thing about the FCS is that eventually the top teams will be matched up.

Surprising, but fanfuckingtastic. I cannot wait to see App in Missoula. I saw McNeese play in WaGriz in the first round in 2006 so that one won't have as much significance to me personally.

I would love to see a home and home with App or Mon, but I have gone over this before. Neither will play in the dome. They want a home only for them, or to play a "neutral" site game that is half a country away from UNI but about 3 hours from them.

Montana would play in the UNI dome before they'd play in the FargoDome, because of the playing surface. Granted we already signed a home and home with NDSU, but unless they get a new playing surface, I don't see us playing in Fargo or Grand Forks against UND.

Looking forward to the Delaware-South Dakota State series the next three years.
It's been awhile since Delaware had a quality home and home. We would have had Furman this year, but uh, something happened.

We also had home and homes with Georgia Southern and The Citadel earlier in the decade. Fun matchups.

Maybe not getting that "rarer". "Big Money" Old Dominion is paying Cal Poly $53k to come east for a one-and-done game next year.

I'm calling BS on that.

I would be shocked to see UM play UNI in Cedar Falls before the dome gets replaced. Montana said the only way they would play us is in a season opener feature game, or something like that. They told us it would only be at Wa-Griz or a neutral field such as Denver, Las Vegas, or Laramie. Now, I've driven to Laramie and Denver from CF, and I can tell you that isn't neutral field.

Been over this before. We have tried, multiple times, to get UM and ASU to do a home and home but they will not. I've saw the e-mails and heard some phone conversations, it won't happen.
I take that back, ASU did agree to come to the dome on the following conditions:
1- UNI pays them at least $50K
2- UNI pays for the travel expense of ASU
3- ASU doesn't have to pay for UNI to travel or to play there
Yeah, some fucking deal that was.

Its true. UNI has tried to set up some big time series with FCS teams, but none will do it. All UNI wants is a home and home, but nobody is willing.

After UNI wins multiple titles, they'll be able to make demands like that too. And just think, that'll be........NEVER.
It's good to be king!

Demands? All UNI has asked for was a home and home.

I'd need to see some credible link to this - seems crazy, since I doubt the Dome is any more difficult to play than either Kidd Brewer or Wa-Griz.

Delaware's game in Brookings, if it happens, will be the Hens first regular season game west of the Mississippi EVER.

This is why I like McNeese St. They went to App St and won.

Probably won't happen. Why would they want to go west of the Miss?

This is not a debate about how difficult it is to play there. Fact is, teams will not come there.

I would like the NCAA become a bigger fan of the FCS. If they promoted the division better then the profile would be increased and there would be a demand to see the top teams play in OOC, therefore more money going to the schools. Despite the fact that the NCAA has nothing to do with the BCS, it still treats the FCS as the redheaded stepchild.

To answer the question...isn't this why there is a playoff?

I have no opinion on this having not seen a lot of the top 16 in the FCS play...settle it on the field.

I think I've been over this a couple of times with UNI guys as well but it is normally over the "buyout" thing when they get feeling all high and mighty about shit. WE HAVE played at the UNI Dome and didn't have a return trip from UNI. You can ask D & Cap'n about that if you don't believe me. We played there in 1987 and won the game 33-16. We never had UNI here outside of the playoffs so I don't think it's a just a motter of not wanting to play there. I can see something happening in the future if it would be mutually beneficial financially to both schools but we would be giving up a shitload of money at this point so it may not happen. I am pretty sure that is what ASU is up against as well and why they ask for a little extra stipend to offset the loss that they would incur by doing a straight home and home.
