Big Sky Auto-Bid Scenarios

It seems pretty academic at this point w/ Montana's 2 game lead, but things aren't 100% decided. Assuming I've applied the tiebreakers correctly, Montana & MSU are the only teams still mathematically alive for the auto-bid.

MSU - They need 2 wins (including one over UM), a UM loss to UNC, and a Weber win over NAU.

UM - They need anything else: a win or an MSU loss or an NAU win over Weber.

The Bobcats would win a three-way tie with UM & Weber (or a 4-way tie adding in EWU).

Who wins a three way tie between Montana, NAU and MSU? If NAU wins out they eliminate Weber...NAU would have beaten Montana State, Montana State would have beaten UM and UM would have beaten NAU. :coffee:

Montana wins it. It would come down to common games. The final standings would look like this (excluding PSU/ISU):

1. Montana ………… 6-2
1. NAU ……………… 6-2
1. Montana St. ….… 6-2
4. Weber …………… 5-3
5. EWU ……………… 5-3
6. Sac ……………..… 4-4
7/8. UNC …………… 2-6

UM's common games disadvantage would be against UNC, MSU's against EWU, and NAU's against Sac. Common games starts at the top, so MSU would be eliminated first and Montana would then beat NAU.

Uh, how do you figure?

EWU (6-3) remaining schedule:
@SUU
@NAU

MSU (6-3)remaining schedule:
SAC
UM

Assuming both teams win out and finish at 8-3 (big if)......EWU holds the "tie-breaker" over MSU.....how does that mathematically eliminate EWU? Just asking.

EXACTLY. :nod:

1.If Weber wins out. WSU has it
2.If Weber losses one more. EWU has it
3.If EWU loses one more & MSU & WSU win out. MSU has it.

Read the thread title, he's only talking about the auto-bid. Only MSU and UM could tie for the conference championship if UNC beats UM and MSU beats Sac St. and the griz.

As Go explained you guys are arguing something else entirely. Only UM & MSU have a shot at the autobid at this point.

Heres something I dont understand;

If UM loses its next two
UM 6-2
MSU wins next two
MSU 6-2
Eastern wins next two
EWU 6-2
Weber wins next two
WSU 6-2

Weber and EWU would only have 1 win against the other 3, whereas MSU and UM would have two wins over the other 3. So between those two, MSU would get the autobid due to the head to head.

I know these "if" threads pop up every season, but it's a pretty slim chance that Montana won't win the next 2. The Griz are in the playoffs no matter what so it really doesn't matter.

I don't see UNC winning at wa/griz so I'll give you this year. Next year................no fucking way, count on it. The griz squeaked too many this year and will get their asses handed to 'em next weekend.

Typical Cat fan response.

Earlier in the year before the season started, the Cat fans were all "No way EWU beats us again, EWU won't put up more than 24 points on us, yada yada. They're always looking forward, because they have nothing to look back on. :lol:

Its sad that the Big Sky has to HOPE & PRAY to get more than one team in the playoffs. btw the first place team is undefeated! What do they want.... 2 undefeated teams in the same conf!?

Oh wait, theres only ONE conf where that can happen.

This sounds just like the retro-looking Windows-Mac commercial.
