Reynolds did a great job no doubt... he had some tough runs... no disrespect

but he also had some HOLES that even these two could have made positive yardage on...

Oh, by the way:

Trevyn Smith, Weber's "all world" running back:

20 carries
64 yards
3.2 ypc average

Longest run: 10 yards.

Hell, Jones did better than that in one quarter against the Griz!

That is because both of their QB's came to play against the Griz. Higgins forgot to get off the bus...

Jones may have a higher average per rush...but Chase just jumped to the top of the Big Sky in rushing yards per game (he was fifth before this game). Chase is now at 102.75. Jones is at 100.33.

Congrats.

If Jones got the number of carries that Chase or Smith got, it wouldn't even be close. That 2.4 yard per game difference is less than a 1/3 carry a game for Jones. :coffee:

Not to mention Jones still leads the Sky in total rushing yards by 81. Jones and Reynolds are tied on both rushing and receiving TDs.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda.

He also may have been broken in half by now if he ran between the tackles as aggressively, or as often, as Chase does.

Maybe we'll never know. ;) For now, though, he's not great between the tackles. He has blinding speed and good moves, so he's great in space. If he becomes tougher in traffic he'll be a middle or higher draft choice. Somethin' to work on.

Chase is just a tough, tough runner. He doesn't have T.Jones' speed, and probably not his moves, but he'll just keep comin' at you all game long, and then knock your defensive backs on their asses at the end of virtually every run. He almost never gets knocked back--he's always moving forward, even as he's going down.

Obviously, in this case, because Jones has played one more game than Reynolds.

Completely different running styles, completely different backs.

Jones is just not a north-south type runner like Reynolds is, but I think he is more versatile and definitely fits into an offensive scheme that is traditionally finesse-oriented and relies on the skill positions. Jones is not great between the tackles - but damn can he make people miss. He's also a big-time threat catching passes out of the flats.

On the other hand, he definitely doesn't have the durability Reynolds does.

Reynolds will run you over, whereas Jones will run around you.

Spot-on.

Neither team would trade (straight up) for the other guy...!!!
Montana wants the guy they have and Eastern wants the guy they have...

Only one of the two guys will likely be playing in 4 weeks... :coffee:

A lot of good comments in this thread about these two fine backs (not to mention Smith and others).

I'm betting that you're right about neither team being willing to trade for the other's running back straight up--literally. Eastern does run more of a finesse running game, and Montana likes to run between the tackles with power a lot more. In Montana's case, that's just Bobby Hauck's MO. He likes to have a big, dominant O-line and a punishing back (see, e.g., Hilliard, Lex) that can take a game over in the last quarter, just flat-out wearing down the opponent, and in the process chewing up whatever clock it might have had to mount a comeback. This doesn't often lead to a lot of quick, flashy scoring, but Bobby's 74-16 record at UM seems to indicate that it definitely has its merits.

This style still rankles a lot of Griz fans who can't seem to come to grips with the fact that we have a different coaching staff than we did in the the old days of Air Bear.
