I'm surprised Cal Poly is that low. Especially ranked that far below SDSU.

3 loss teams:

11. Northern Iowa Panthers 5-3
16. Weber State Wildcats 5-3
18. Cal Poly Mustangs 4-3
19. Massachusetts Minutemen 4-3
21. Jacksonville State Gamecocks 4-3

I think Weber is the best 3 loss team in the rankings. While I know UNI is way good they have 2 FCS losses and 1 FBS loss and Weber has 2 FBS losses and 1 FCS loss.

WSU's loss is to currently unranked Montana State and UNI's losses are both to FCS top 10 teams.

I think 11 is too high for a 3 loss team with multiple FCS losses. I'm not saying WSU should be 11th though. Oh and yes I hate the fact that we played 2 FBS, I'm sure Cal Poly fans would say the same.

As I said in the thread in the Poll forum - great poll!

Easily the best of the polls released this week.

I like that NAU, Cal Poly and Weber all are close to each other. NAU and Weber still have to play as well Cal Poly and Weber. All will be very important games.

Good point, but I don't think 3 losses is necessarily indicative of what has happened this season.

I'm a believer in "good losses" if you will. None of these teams have any bad losses (with Weber's loss to Montana State borderline at this point).

UNI
Sep 5 - L at Iowa, 16-17
Oct 17 - L vs. Southern Ill, 20-27
Oct 24 - L at South Dakota St, 14-24

All three really good teams and no blowout. The SDSU game was apparently pretty lopsided, but it wasn't a blowout.

Weber State
Sep 5 - L at Wyoming, 22-29
Sep 12 - L at Colorado State, 23-24
Oct 3 - L vs. Montana State, 21-26

The Wyoming and Colorado State losses are pretty darn good losses. The Montana State loss isn't great, but it's not horrible either. Its why they are not in the Top 15.

Cal Poly

Sep 19 - L at Ohio U, 10-28
Sep 26 - L at San Jose St, 9-19
Oct 10 - L at Montana, 23-35

Cal Poly is an interesting case becasue the two FBS loses are to two bottom half of FBS teams. Their loss to Montana was acceptable. The thing that puts Cal Poly higher in my poll is the win over what I consider a very very good SDSU team.

UMass

Sep 5 - L at Kansas State, 17-21
Oct 10 - L at Delaware, 27-43
Oct 24 - L at Richmond, 12-34

UMass's losses to Delaware and Richmond, while lopside, aren't really horrendous loses. Richmond is the #1 team and Delaware lost to Richmond on a blocked FG. The Kansas State loss cannot be considered bad can it? The lopsided nature of the losses to UD and UR is why UMass is on its way out of the poll with another loss.

Jacksonville State
Sep 5 - L at Georgia Tech, 17-37
Sep 12 - L at Florida State, 9-19
Oct 24 - L vs. Eastern Ill, 20-28

GTech and FSU aren't bad losses. JSU played against GTech without Perriloux and should have beaten FSU at home. The EIU loss hurts them and they benefitted from being highly ranked before that loss. Another one and they'll likely be on their way out too.

Keep in mind, if these teams win out, they'll be 8-3 an probably all be top 15 and with the exception of Jacksonville State, all in the playoffs.

Can anyone beat Richmond? Will they stay #1 til the playoffs?

10/31 @ Towson 1:00 PM
11/07 Villanova 3:30 PM
11/14 @ Georgetown 1:00 PM
11/21 William & Mary 12:00 PM
Complete Team Schedule

Villanova and W&M are toss-ups at this point IMO.

UMass stunk up the joint in their two FCS losses.

Yes, but they lost to two really really good teams. That helps them stay in the poll. And if they win out, which I think they will, they'll be 8-3, in the playoffs, and will deserve to be in the 13-18 range, don't you think

Using your logic, you should have rated NAU above all of them:

L at Arizona 17-34 (Top 25 FBS team)
L in OT to Montana 34-41 - Top 5 team

No bad losses, and only two of them!

I have NAU above all but Cal Poly and UNI.
11: Northern Iowa Panthers
12: Cal Poly Mustangs
15: Northern Arizona Lumberjacks
17: Weber State Wildcats
18: Massachusetts Minutemen
22: Jacksonville State Gamecocks
Cal Poly has a big win over what I consider a very very good SDSU team.
Northern Iowa is benefitting from starting very high, blowing out the teams they were supposed to blow out and from Iowa's success because for all intents and purposes, UNI should have beaten Iowa.

NAU doesn't have any good wins and squeaked by Southern Utah and Northern Colorado. Not enough to put them above UNI and Cal Poly for me.

I would take NAU's wins over Southern Utah (comparable to Missouri State) and a decent Montana State team any day over UNI's wins over 1-win teams St. Francis, Indiana State, and Western Illinois.

To not say Southern Utah and Montana State aren't good wins shows you need to pay attention a little bit closer.

And the point of our poll was to get away from the "Well, they started high in preseason" mentality. UNI has lost both decent FCS teams they have played.

I'm saying they started high in my poll in Week 6, which means I thought they were that good at that point. They have two close loses to two teams that I believe are really good.

And I'm paying attention plenty. "Good wins" was a poor choice of words. I meant that I don't think that Southern Utah and Montana State are wins worthy of moving NAU above UNI at this point. They're obviously good wins, because if they weren't, I wouldn't have NAU as high as I do.

easily the best? The CS, AGS and SN polls are so close to each other I'm not sure how one could easily be better then any of the others.

If you're talking about 3 loss teams, don't leave out EWU. We've only lost to a highly ranked (at the time) BCS Cal team, a #3 Montana by 7, and a ranked (forget what # at the time) Weber team by 18.

I am not surprised but I am disappointed at Cal Poly's ranking so far below SDSU. Voters penalize the Mustangs despite two quality wins but continue to reward UNI despite ZERO quality wins? Both have three DI losses.

read man read.... my post had nothing to do with UNI.... it had everything to do with the polls. The three polls dont differ much so I was saying theres no way anyone can justify saying any of the polls are easily the best.

The Cal Poly game really does not matter much to Weber's chances at the post season. If the Wildcats beat Montana and Northern Arizona, they are in with the BSC conference championship and autobid. If they fail to win out in conference play, Weber is almost assuredly out. :ugeek:
