Whither Cal Poly

They're currently 4-3, an unremarkable record in and of itself, but that includes two reasonable losses to bowl-series teams, a loss to Montana on the road, and a good win against SDSU. They're 3-1 against the division with four games remaining, which means they have to win out to become playoff-eligible, and it's not terribly far-fetched to think they can pull it off. Their toughest tests will be at Cal Davis in two weeks, and at Weber to close out the season. Does a Cal Poly team with a 7-1 FCS record and three decent to very good wins get an at-large out of the Great West, and which of the other teams on the bubble gets busted if this happens?

If they win out they should be in.

But at 7-4, and from the West, they won't be.

You can make a similar case for Davis, although they would lack the quality win against SDSU and Weber.

Depending on how things shake out, either will be competing with the 2nd or 3rd place teams out of the BSC. But it would be nice to see one win out and/or have three teams from out west make the playoffs again.

I would think they would get in, although it will be interesting if the committee remembers the last time they left a Walsh coached team on the outside. If Cal Poly is eligible, will the committee take them, basically acknowledging they made a mistake, or leave them home, showing that it is too soon for Walsh to be in the playoffs. Remains to be seen, but it will be interesting. Of course, if they stumble down the stretch, this is all moot.

At 7-4, they wouldn't have 7 DI wins.

If Cal Poly wins out, it would be quite surprising for them to not make it. However, CP winning out would be difficult since they have to go to Ogden. I wouldn't be too surprised if they lost to Davis, either.

Sorry, if they win out they're 8-3...in that scenario, they may very well be in.

I guess I would think that if they won out at 8-3 they would get in. It wont be easy; their passing game has been pretty sad for most of the season. They played well at San Jose State in the loss with D. Johnson going for about 100 yards in receptions but that has been about it. Defense has looked OK most of the season. I would of course like to see them go but they will have trouble with UC Davis in Davis. If they get through to Ogden and win there..they would deserve it...

that win over SDSU is only looking better as we go along... but I agree that they likely have to win out... it seems possible that that Weber game will be akin to a play-in game for the playoffs...
