I wrote before the game in another thread that North Dakota State was in the interesting position of facing its weakest opponent so far in the playoffs in the semifinals and I think what we saw is consistent with that belief.

Sam Houston State made it kind of interesting for a while by selling out to stop the run since North Dakota State had suffered injuries at the wide receiver position. But in the end it didn't matter. They were totally outclassed.

Sam Houston State was in the semis because it had a good draw in the first two games then played Villanova without its Payton Award winning starting quarterback in the quarterfinals. It was a borderline playoff caliber team that had incredible luck to this point. But tonight the luck ran out even though North Dakota State did have another injury at the wide receiver position so as to allow Sam Houston State to have a better chance of getting away with trying to sell out to stop the run.

No team that gets blown out by a D-II school should EVER be representing their division in the semifinals. Ought to be some kind of rule against it.

Not the first time it's happened. BTW the D-II team that pistol whipped Sam Houston State is playing in the D-II national championship game tomorrow. They'd beat an awful lot of FCS teams.

This makes no sense. Power teams are usually more likely to chuck it deep, not less (at least on a per-pass basis). NDSU may not go deep much, but most power running teams like to set up play action deep balls.

Ya, it does make sense if you have watched the Bison.

Huh? :?

My point was that spread ≠ deep ball and that power ≠ short passes. If anything, the tendencies go the other direction for most teams.

Like I said, you do not watch much Bison football.

Power running game = short passes in the Bison offense.

FBs - TEs - RBs get a lot of balls thrown to them. The deep ball is used very occasionally.

SHSU's run lends credence to the ideas that teams can improve and the expanded field is a positive. I know SHSU was the auto but they could have easily been an at-large.

Every spread team I have watched the Bison play throws the ball deep downfield....every one.

The Bison do throw it deep but very occasionally. The west-coast system they run is a short passing game....period.

All teams can throw deep balls just like all teams can utilize the short passing game. It's also situational, so a team might feel their best chance to beat the Bison is taking a few shots. The bison might shy away from the deep ball because they lack a threat at WR.

But you generalized that since bison don't run the spread, they don't throw the deep ball. :coffee:

That is why I said it. I'll say it slower for you. Every spread team has thrown deep many times in every game I have watched the Bison play. That "generalization' as you said, pertains to exactly why I said it.

But you're initial generalization didn't include that caveat, did it? That's why you were called out on it. The struggle bus...you need to get off at the next stop. :kisswink:

Actually, NDSU has a pretty decent passing game. The Bison do not run the spread type offense so the deep ball is not a major component of the offense.

Roll out passes, screens, TEs catching balls are the elements of the Bison passing game.

It is pretty effective...

Pretty easy kalm.....

As I said, every spread team I have watched goes deep. The Bison don't. What type of offense do the Bison run?

Really easy.

Man, is there anything up between your ears. You keep adding shit on to what you think I said.

Go read what I said. But it will not matter because all you do is deflect and imply crap.

I'll slow it down again for the mental giant you think you are.....Where did I say that is a "major component". Do I need to highlight what I said again?

Every spread team I have watched the Bison play......HAS USED THE DEEP BALL. The Bison do not. Now if you cannot read my original post then whatever. Keep up the argument.

"The Bison do not run the spread type offense so the deep ball is not a major component of the offense".

Kalm....can you understand that. Pretty simple. Every spread team has thrown deep on the Bison this year. Is it a major component? Maybe, but it has been used by the Bison opponents. Now what else did I say in your mind..... :dunce: :dunce: :dunce:
